Default restringing dobro

Wow, looking over the past few pages of talk about reeeeallly nice expensive guitars, I am almost embarrased to ask a way down-market this.

But I will anyway...

Just picked up a used Johnson Dobro off Craigslist.

Yes, I know I swore off Johnsons when the uke experiment bombed. But it sounds nice enough for what it is, and it was a teeny weeny fraction of the cost of a National et al.

Really a fine way to satisfy GAS without getting banished to the garage for overspending.

As might be expected, the strings look to be about as old as the guitar, and the pie pan on the front is completely dull.

Any advice as to which strings. Any peculiarities to putting them on?

And maybe some cleaner for the front? I don't expect it to look rechromed or nuthin'. Heck, I kinda like the antique-y look. Goes with the sound and all.

When I change my strings, I don't have a particular order, but just make sure that you change only one string at a time. Otherwise, your bridge will shift and it needs to be in the right place.
