This is very cool. Thanks.
But my teacher has me fretting the G chord with my pinky, index and ring fingers. Granted this video makes me want to start from scratch. Should I? Are the fingerings as show in the video muddier than the other "standard" fingerings? |

I Always use middle ring and pinky to make a G chord unless of course I'm using index middle and ring to make a G chord or Index middle ring and pinky to make G chord with high D instead of a B. Either to way make a G chord is correct. I use various forms depending on the notes I need to hit.

The fingering you use will depend on what else you are doing (maybe some melody notes?), what chord comes next, what's comfortable for you, and what your teacher thinks is best for you for now. If I am playing G - G7, I might use a fingering with pinky on high G. If the next chord is D, I usually use third finger on high G. I usually play the low G with my third finger, B with my second finger and high G with my pinky, as go-to. It's good to learn them all.

I pretty much agree with MC5C but I'll go a step further. If you have a teacher then go by what he is teaching you, for now. You'll break out in the future to doing things the way you want to fit your purposes.
To give you an idea what is possible with a G chord. Try and imagine playing the low strings with your middle two fingers and playing a lead on the three high strings with your pointer finger and your pinky. All at the same time. And they call a G chord a cowboy chord. It can get complicated real quick even for city folk.
