All 3 set up to play effortlessly.

This week have been playing the GPCPA1.

Usually play my OM-28 since Sept. last year.

My old #1 Gibson J-185ec mostly sits in the case anymore. But every time she comes out, feels like home.

Actually, the OP is not asking for favorites, but instead which gets the most play. While they may be the same in your house, they may not be in others.

My Southern Jumbo definitely gets the most play, both for gigs and just couch time. I’ve found that I really am a mahogany Gibson lover at this point. I re-strung both the SJ and D55 yesterday and spent a lot of time working on a new original song with the D55. The overtones from the rosewood were somewhat distracting to my ears after so much time spent with the Gibson. I’d NEVER get rid of the D55, it sounds beautiful. But for my singer/cowboy chord world right now, the SJ is what I grab. The Farida is my office guitar.

Interesting that so few people play nylon string guitars. For fingerstyle, they're difficult to beat, as far as I'm concerned.

1) D-45 best tone overall
2) 000-28 good tone, convenient size
3) Taylor 714ce good tone, good compromise, something different
4) GPC-x2e - decent tone, less worry
5) Gibson LG-2 really nice tone, small size - just doesn’t get the attention it should.
6) 000-15sm - sweet tone, less fancy

Hi Barry
  • My favorite acoustic is my 1993 Olson Dreadnought
  • My favorite electric is my 1992 American Strat Plus

The others…2012 Indian made Fender Squire Tele which I've reworked, 2003 Kronbauer, 2005 Bashkin Fanned Fret OM are like my children. I don't have to pick favorites - they are all welcome here! I use the Strat & Tele interchangeably for Worship Team at church.

I have a Cordoba C5, but I don't play with nails so I get that wispy sound. It's a nice mellow tone though.

I currently only have a few guitars and each has a specific job.

My #1 is my Godin A6 Ultra which I use for my plugged-in acoustic gigs, which comprise the bulk of my guitar work.

I use my Godin LGX-SA for gigs with a Classic Country/Rockabilly band with which I use my recently re-acquired Roland GR-33 synth.

My Martin HD-35 is reserved for pure acoustic gigs where the guitar will be miked - concerts, radio performances, recording, etc. It has no pick up.

I also have an Ovation C2079 LX for informal jams or situations in which I’m not sure if I’ll be playing acoustic or plugged in.

I rotate three, my Guild D 35, my Epiphone Texan, and my D 35 Custom. Each gets played until I want a change, usually three to four weeks. I change strings every time a new guitar comes around. My Martin 00 15 Custom gets spot duty when I feel like it.

I don't have a pecking order. If I am going to fingerpick, I'll play my 00-18. If I'm going to flat pick strum, I''ll play my HD-28. And after I realize I haven't played it in a while, I'll Play my J-45. The J-45 is a good compromise for fingerpicking and flatpicking. Plus, if I ever go to an open mic again, it's my only acoustic with a pickup.

I have 8 acoustics and each one I pick up leaves me thinking, 'this guitar is amazing!' Could be my memory is failing but I'll call it blessed! My current favorite is the 2012 Taylor 814ce, but that will change tomorrow.

I feel the same way until…
I pick up my J45.

Haven't been gigging much over the past three years, but when I do appear (mostly at my own club), I prefer to play one on my three dreads - all Collings 12 fretters, and my most used nowadays is my DS2h (sitka EIR, but sometimes I will use my Santa Crus "RS".

To teach I use my Collings 0002h, or one of my Eastmans - E20-P or E40-00.
eastmans, or the Waterloo.
For late night noodling, always the eastmans , love 'em.
