Gloss Top Eastman E1D
I have an gloss top E1D, but every other one that I see seems to have a satin top. Does anyone else here have a gloss top E1D Eastman? Just out of curiosity. Maybe they started the run with gloss tops?

I had an E1OM that was gloss top. My E2D is satin though.

It must have been an early run of them that they did with gloss tops then.
I prefer the Gloss Top on dreadnoughts so it works well for me.

They switched over in 2019/2020, and it was around that time they started putting "M" in front of their serial numbers and gluing pickguards on their dreadnoughts instead of having them separate in the case.

Not sure that's correct because I bought a new E1D in Feb 2022 and it had a satin top.

They switched from gloss on the early models to satin on the later ones. So yes, yours should have a satin top.

Out of curiosity, how do you like the E1D? I really wanted to like it but found that the tone sounded stiff and compressed compared to every Martin I have played (ranging from the D10E on up). |

I liked it, didn’t love it. Had a nice sparkly top end but lacked bass. Played nicely. I picked up a D-16 that bested it in every category so I sold it. |

Yeah, sold mine too.. mine had plenty of bass but it wasn't a warm smooth bass like my Martins. It just didn't sound very big or complex.

FWIW, the cedar top on the E2 warms up the tone considerably. I found the sitka topped OM to be a bit brash on the high end when strummed, and while I'd assume the depth of the dread softens that some, the cedar most definitely will warm it up. The E2 is a fantastic dread...actually reminds me a lot of my old D18. Powerful, loud, warm, and a joy to play.

I love my E1D (2020). Gets better every time I play it!
