I'd strongly recommend one of these:

ART Dual Pre

It provides gain to match even the most timid mic output (I've used an m201 with no problems) with the s1's famously insensitive XLR inputs (x2), has a USB connection which can be used a variety of ways - and provides phantom power for 2 inputs (mic or DI).

I always carry a small 9v charger so am happy to use rechargeable batteries, 9v PSU can also be used when AC is available.

Wish I knew about this when I got the 2 single units for my 2 Condenser Mics.

I know, I only found out about it by the skin of my teeth.

One other thing, if you keep the ART unit nearby then you have local volume controls rather than walking to/from the speaker.

A little thing but helpful.

Bose has some "refurbished" units in stock right now with the battery for 549 with free 2 day shipping. I asked what " refurbished" meant and was told they were basically customer returns. I ordered one.

The unit without a battery is only $400.00
When a battery is available, it is only $95.00.
The question is? When will batteries become available?

I have a hunch that batteries will be 150,- each when they are available again. 400,- for a S1 is still a good deal.

I won't worry about a battery for mine as I have a Jackery Inverter to use instead.

so i did my first gig last night with the new setup (2 S1s)

my previous setup was an S1 on a pole with a loudbox.

the 2 S1s on poles, w/mains feed from my sound board was a massively huge improvement. They worked perfectly

I like my loudbox, and for what it is, it serves well

but this was a whole new level.

never loud, but sound was cleanly and evenly spread about the room

It was a restaurant, so the key is to be sure the volume is kept in check

good sized room with a high ceiling, cathedral style..

They did have acoustic baffles installed so I'm pretty sure that helped.

Do you plan to visit Austria in the next weeks, David?

Nice rig Ray. Thanks for reporting back. Looks like a nice place too.
The S1's are so versatile and sound so good. Did an outdoor gig in a courtyard yesterday, I was inside a gazebo with one S1 and it handled the area so well.
Glad you found a good sounding solution.

they do have their limitations, and things that could be better, there is no doubt.

I'm happy with the results, and sounds like you got a working setup too.

There are lots of options today, but these do hold their own.

It's all good.

This is a good price if you can order from them.

Thanks! It's showing backordered for me though. I wound up calling Sweetwater and getting a bundle discount there on the base sm58.
