I was really into tenor banjos for a while - after hearing Danny Barker/PHJB playing Mood Indigo I was totally hooked. I played in a 7-piece trad-jazz band, and I also played solo; it works very well as a solo instrument because of its volume/dynamics. I played lots of rags, Jelly Roll Morton, standards. I learned a lot from Eddy Davis. I also like the banjo's role in the Caribbean - its timbre being well-suited for syncopated dance music - where Jelly Roll got the 'Latin tinge.'

Since I was playing a lot solo, I eventually moved on to plectrum banjo. I had some (tenors) set-up for 'Irish' too, but prefer playing other instruments for Irish trad..
