Default Basic finger picking exercises

Hey AGF,
Do any of y'all have some finger-picking exercises, or easy finger-picking songs? I enjoy playing gospel and country songs and would like like some ideas on fingerpicking songs.

Lessons! Can't go wrong with that if you have the time and money. Lots of stuff on line also. Good luck.

I recently got Steve James Fingerstyle Blues Songbook which I think is fantastic. The pieces are short and include a variety of songs and keys. It includes access to recordings both at target tempo and slowed down. It was written for beginners to intermediate players with the goal to lay down some important foundations. I'm just getting started with it.

I look forward to learning about other resources folks recommend.

(Mississippi) John Hurt is a good place to start (as others have pointed out in other parts of this message board). Some of his stuff is not easy for one reason or another, or there will be just one move that's a little hard, but I'd say a good one to start with is Richland Women Blues (sounds like "The Midnight Special" by CCR and others). Play it in C and alternate the bass strings as you go.

I just bought this. It was $10. I’m a beginner and was able to learn Amazing Grace in a few hours. It comes with the tabs and chords and both strumming and picking patterns. It’s good for starting out.
