Removing section of Gibson finish - theoretically
Friend has a '99 Gibson AJ that is quite the "player's" guitar. No cracks but tons of checking and crackling finish, especially on the lower bout where strumming forearm meets the body. Sweat damage!
My question is - would it be a disastrous decision to remove/buff out this particular section of finish from the top? Admittedly more for aesthetic value, but I'm curious! |

Disastrous for sure

You'd definitely want to take this to a skilled repair person. Due to the checking, I'm guessing this is a nitro lacquer finish - the good things is that achieving an excellent repair is not unrealistic.

I do this type of work all the time, it is way harder and more time consuming than it looks
