Loose tuning machines
Has anyone else seen this? Martin D-18S, slot-head, bought in 1972. I was changing strings today and while turning the winder saw the side-mounted Grover machine lift up slightly. When I tightened the screw that had come out, it didn't tighten completely. Checking others, I found some tight and some that also seemed to be stripped (hole in the headstock enlarged?). Is this unusual? Is there an easy cure? I did e-mail Martin to find out about warranty issues.

Very easy cure.
Remove the screw and cut down a wooden tooth pick to fit in the hole. Re-fit.

Tooth pick works well.
Glue in the toothpick, drill the proper size pilot hole for the screw. Rub the screw with a little beeswax, reinstall the screw.

The beeswax is a good idea though.

I’ve used matchsticks successfully. Toothpick probably the better option though.

Sounds like a common enough problem...from using a string winder?
