Trying to decide about a modified/repaired Kohno

I found a Kohno classical for a GREAT price (about 75% under what a Kohno would normally sell for). It has a great price because of the following:

• The neck has been thinned (front to back)
• The top has been refinished
• The top at one time had a hole in it (about 3/4" by 1/2" near the upper side) which has been repaired, but the repair is visable. There is some small additional bracing which has been added inside under the hole.

None of the above really bother be because the guitar plays and sounds amazing.

HOWEVER, they say if I ever need the action lowered for any reason, a classical guitar repairman will have to shave the bridge down (for about $200). They say the guitar has been very stable for months in the store (under controlled temps and humidity). I'd be keeping in a controlled environment as well.

Thoughts?

Agreed! Unless it was really cheap, and you tried it first, and loved the neck, and didn't care about the hole in the top. (Have you seen under the top??) If the geometry has shifted so much that the bridge will need lowering, the guitar's tone will possibly suffer, and it could be a sign of other troubles.

The Khono guitars I've seen have had no troubles with geometry.

OK, I decided to pass on the Khono. I was a bit nervous that it may be a bit fragile.

I did come home with a 1994 Dauphin DS-45 Classic that is a very nice guitar for the money.
