Default Custom Dean

Hey all, i know you guys have a hard-core wealth of knowledge around here. I was wondering if any of you could help me with discovering a bit more about a custom Dean I am possibly about to acquire. It is the NY Skyline guitar. My local dealer has it in his personal collection and is considering letting me get it. I know it was initially designed and started to be built by the owner or Dean guitars father, but from there, I know nothing else. It has real turquoise and all sorts of other materials inlaid. It is also a set neck mahogany back/neck I believe. It also looks like it is based on their Icon body. There are tons of pictures of it on Pinterest and it is mentioned in an article about the owner of Dean guitars in the "Through His Son's Eyes" section. Other than that, that's all I can find.

Hey Daniel - Wow! That's an amazing guitar. I can't comment on that guitar though. Dean Zelinsky (founder) left Dean quite a few years ago. I wonder if that's a guitar from his tenure?

The shape reminds me of my Dean "Hardtail Select" (import) except the upper horn is longer on the Select. I think the US version is called "Hardtail".

Any chance you can get the serial number and email Dean?

I emailed them about it yesterday, but I'll have to wait for a response. I did find out that it was at NAMM in 2018. It was started by Elliot Robinson in conjunction with Pearl Works and finished by his son (Evan, the current owner of Dean) after he died. It supposedly went into Evan's personal collection, but somehow my local dealer acquired it. From what I understand, it is an Icon deluxe flametop with a highly customized fretboard.

I also found a YouTube video about it from the NAMM Show.

Just watched the video. Nice to know the history on it.

I found it on Reverb. The description states 'one of a kind' so it must be the same one. Is there any more info there? It states 2017 build which makes sense if it was at 2018 NAMM.

It is the same guitar. I will be making the ACTUAL owner aware of this post.

Alright, I got word back from Dean today with pretty much all of the details. I also found out more about the listing on Reverb. There is someone that posts guitars for the shop sometimes and he happened to just recently post it up for sale. The owner of the guitar shop is preparing for retirement next year and he is starting to sell off some of his EXTENSIVE collection of guitars with the exception of the most valuable items (Some of which are $40k+, whew...). This guitar actually represents something personal for me, as I love NYC and visiting my family there. Right now with the current state of NYC, it makes me really sad and this guitar will remind me of happier times all while having a small investment value. I gave him money for it today. Now I need to get a display case for it and put some UV film on the glass.

Yeah man, I've already put money down on it. Got it for a good bit less than the Reverb ad, but the deal isn't the motivation. It is an absolutely beautiful sounding and looking guitar. Yes, I will be playing it. I am not a collector. It is definitely a collectible (As any NAMM guitar is really), but it means more than that to me.

Excellent! When you get it make sure you create a NGD thread.
