Default Tuning and Opening Intro for De Colores ~ Joan Baez version

Hi All,

My wife would like me to accompany her in just two weeks (her singing, of course) on guitar and I'm trying to work out the distinct sound of the introduction to the Joan Baez version of this song found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48vNfKUHWRw

Joan sings it in A, and after the first set of double stops in the intro, the guitar plays a couple more sets of double stops that are distinct in their sound, perhaps the result of an open tuning?

Does anyone have some direction they could provide to assist me here?

Thanks!

A friendly bump to give Pete a hand with his question/challenge!

That is one I don't play on my own. A friend does, and just uses standard tuning. Sounds good when he does it.

Well, hold on, there's a whole lot more than guitar going on there! It sounds to me more like a harp (or steel pans?) playing the melody and the guitar(s) (and/or vihuelas?) just strumming. But here's how I might play it on one guitar:

Code:

-------|-2-2-2-|-4-2-2-|-2-0-0-|-2-2-0-|-0-----|-0-0---|-------|
-2-3-5-|-3-3-3-|-5-3-3-|-3-2-2-|-3-3-2-|-2-3-3-|-2-2-3-|-2-----|
-2-4-6-|-------|-------|-------|-------|---4-4-|-----4-|-2-----|
-------|-0-----|(0)----|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|
-0-2-4-|-------|-2-----|0------|-------|-------|-------|-0-----|
-------|-------|-------|-------|-2-----|-0-----|-0-----|-------|
That B bass note in the 3rd bar is bit tricky, and it sounds OK to just repeat the open D. There are other position options you might prefer, and most of it is easier in G with capo on 2 anyway. (You'll need to work that out... )
