Default Do you love a brand's acoustic guitars and hate. . .

. . . their electrics or viceversa?

I own 3 Gibson electrics and 2 Gibson acoustics and love them all; but I know many friends who love, for example, LPs, but don't care about Gibson acoustics. And viceversa. How many of you have a "love/hate" relationship like that?

I can't say that Fender has ever built (or commissioned) an acoustic that ever attracted me.

Godin/Seagull seems to do well in both worlds.

I do prefer Gibson acoustics and Fender electrics but i don’t hate Gibson electrics….as for Fender acoustics, other than the clunkers they made back in the sixties I’ve never played one…

.I can’t say I hate any guitars….but there are a lot of em I love…

I have a love/love relationship with Yamaha guitars. My Revstar 502T and 620 are as good as it gets. My LLX26, A5M, and FGX5 are no slouches either.

I have some cheap guitars that I bought because they were, well, cheap. But I still like them for one reason or another. I don’t think in terms of brand names, necessarily, although of course the name tells me what to expect in general from a guitar. I try to have an open mind, but still sometimes something you think will be crap - is.

Yamaha - always had it going on with their acoustics, haven't seen an electric I liked in about 20 years;
Gretsch - major fan of their electrics for 60 years, never got the flattop thing right;
Epiphone (New York-era) - see Gretsch comments, but I'd have an old Epi archtop comp box in a heartbeat;
Gibson - only flattop acoustics I ever liked were the circa-2K Advanced Jumbo and the J-15, owned a few electrics over my lifetime (still have an SG Reissue bass and a P-90 goldtop LP) and I wouldn't refuse a nice non-cut Super 400;
Fender - their electrics are iconic for a good reason, and I'll just leave it at that;
Martin - their acoustics are iconic for a good reason, and I'll just leave it at that;
Ovation - still have a Custom Balladeer that's been my workhorse for 40 years, but I could never bond with their electrics...

Godin, Guild, and Ibanez seem to have struck a balance IME, and I've yet to try one of the Larrivee solids...

Just picked this up, now looking to add an acoustic from the same shop

I don't find Yamaha electric guitars to be interesting or cool ... but I am also confident that if I ended up with one, it would be a very fine instrument.

Ibanez makes some pretty great electrics, and they’re widely respected as solid gigable guitars. Their acoustics on the other hand have always just been meh. Although I saw recently that they have some decent models out.

I have 6 gibbies, one is a J200 which I absolutely love.

I have 4 fenders, but yet I've never owned a Fender Acoustic. The paramount's look interesting, but I don't think I'd buy one. The rest, just don't seem to match even their mid tier electrics.

I do have one Gretch and it's a cool axe, but I don't think I'd ever be interested in their acoustics, especially the ones with that pick shaped sound hole. Don't like the look at all. and I'm a guy who has to "like" the look to even have an interest.

I do have one Epi remaining, yet never owned an Epi acoustic.
They have some decent models, but never anything that caught my eyes.

Those are both older models - FWIW i own an '82 SSC-500 (from the last days of MIJ production) that not only served as one of my two main gigging guitars for over 25 years, but still does backup duty whenever I play out - but I have to agree that Yamaha's newer electrics just don't do it for me either...

For those who've never seen one, here's what it looks like in person (also came in blonde and sunburst BTW) - best $199 (brand-new w/OHSC) I ever spent, especially since the best examples fetch over $2K these days:

The PRS Acoustics that I've played have done absolutely nothing for me.

And, while I don't own a PRS electric, I do like them quite a bit.

Same here. I did own a 245 SE that I liked a lot, but in a moment of madness I gave to one of my sons.

And on the flip side, I like Taylor acoustics, but have no interest in their T5z line of electrics.
