The first Ambrosia album (1975)...right this minute, "World Leave Me Alone," which has one of the best acoustic riffs, IMNSOHO, known in rock!

What a great song! Had Joni Mitchell singing harmony.

I got to see him live several times... great show. And he was indeed a talent who left us way too soon.

Quite a band they were too! My favorite is from a 1970 album of theirs... "Can You See Me". I remember working at a summer camp in the mid 70's, when I heard of his pre Christian band, from a group of campers from Ohio and Pennsylvania. I had seen him in concert while on tour with A Band Called David... and some great Christian artists... but hadn't heard any of his earlier work.

After hearing his work with the 2nd Chapter and solo, I finally saw him with his solo band in 1980 at the Bijou theater in Knoxville, TN. I saw him again on an acoustic solo tour in the mid-90s.

Last night I watched the recent David Gilmour Pompeii concert again. Lovely.

Other than my own recordings, which is what I'm really listening too most hours, most days, these days, this stuff this week:

Husker Du. The new collection of early recordings and demos "Savage Young Du". For a band that became a model for a lot of later 20th Century hard core punk, they still sound unique to me.

Gabor Szabo. Had a moment in the Sixties, now pretty much forgotten. Just one of those things that I felt I had to listen to again after posting on a thread here about making an acoustic stand in for an electric guitar. I think most of his stuff is a DeArmond sound-hole pickup in a Martin dread. Some of the arrangements are full of Sixties cheese like the later Wes Montgomery records, and the faux raga/eastern European scale thing dates it, but I happen to like the faux raga/eastern European scale thing. Steve Tibbetts "Yr". Just a perfect album. Mixes acoustic and electric perfectly. Self-engineered but flawlessly to my dumb ears.

I took my parents to see Phil Keaggy here in Austin and it was just an unbelievable evening of acoustic guitar mastery
