Don't need the cutaway, don't need the electronics, don't like the scale. Guess it's not for me then. No problem.

Doug Greth edition. I didn't know who Doug Greth was so I looked him up. Chris Martins pool builder/guitar player brother ? But different parents? I am confused and intrigued. Anyone have any insight?

I'm as confused as you, but here is the info provided on Martin's site:

not as difficult as you may think
if you love some cowboy chords it may not be for you, but there are a couple nice advantages to a longer scale instrument. specifically with nylon strings bc the higher tension gives the guitar a thump and a very quick response and the higher tension isn't tough on the fingers being nylon (vs steel). only within the first few frets will you notice the difference in space bt the frets. once you get up around the 4th or 5th fret there's no difference.
Willie's 1969 N-20 has a 25.4" scale. the later martin nylons (post 1969) all had longer scales (26.44") and most of them are louder and play quite nicely. i believe Martin's largest fault with their early nylon models (which are really folk guitar vs classical guitars) is that they are so mellow. most people want more punch and thump from them. so, they switched to a longer scale, which gave the instruments such. martin nylons, even this new model, are really their own animal. it's apples to oranges trying to compare them with other nylons. some love them, some don't. to each their own. |

For me, personally, this is the least-true thing I've ever read on the world-wide-interwebs!

Jon, at MFG, said he could get me one for around $1800. Still have to wonder about that scale?

I played one at martinfest, and it was a great guitar. Not a true classical (obviously), but a great folk guitar/pop music guitar. It's kind of like the taylor nylons. It played incredibly easily, and personally I would't mind having one. Doug Greth was Chris' half brother, but because his mom had full custody and they grew up together they thought of each other as regular brothers. I guess as a tribute to his late brother, Mr. Martin decided to issue a custom edition of his late brother's Martin.

I think many of you are missing the point of the 26.5 scale. Yes, it may be harder to play, but it can also serve as a landing strip for small aircraft.

Love the Scale Length
This has been discussed on the Martin forum (umgf.com) as well and this is basically a structural copy of the 000C-16SGTNE/000C-16SRNe with a change in wood/rosette.
I have the 000C-16SGTNE and if you are looking for a way to move from a 14 fret OM to a nylon string, this is your guitar. Not a traditional classical in anyway but a fingerstyle friendly guitar with a lot of volume and thump. It barks on the bass end if you move toward the bridge and the trebles ring with a crisp folksy sound.... Plug it in to a nice acoustic amp and it is sweetheart. Not for the purist....but a nice crossover.... Martin000 |

Looks like it's hard to find. No luck at Elderly. One source said a qty 48 produced.

Ramirez has made countless A1's with scales circa 670mm

how's that?
measure the distance bt the nut and first fret of your 640mm scale instrument and then measure the distance bt the 4th and 5th fret of a 670mm scale instrument and tell me just how much difference there is. methinks you don't understand the concept that the space between frets of a 670mm instrument are only wider than "normal" for the first few frets.
