Default Simon's Bocote OM on the road.....

Had a chance to play another one of Simon Fay's wonderful OM's over the last few days. This one was Bocote and German Spruce. As usual, beautifully appointed with a variety of other exotic woods for the binding, rosette and headstock overlay.

The build was extremely clean and flawless, as one would expect. I like the aesthetic on his newer guitars, as well as the pinned bridges (not a fan of the pinless bridge) This one also has the slot soundport, that seems to be more subtle than others I've experienced.

The instrument responded very well to the lightest touch....very even across all registers, but I especially liked the fat trebles. Notes on the high E string from the 10th fret on up just rang.

The only thing I found that I may have changed was to maybe make it a little more shallow in the body depth. My ear is tuned for guitars that are 4" max depth which makes the decay a little quicker and just a tad more string separation, but that's just me. I'm sure other players would think I was crazy (any suprises there??)

Overall this was a very warm and pleasing instrument that would do well in many styles. I'll add a few pics here for those interested.......thanks again to Simon for allowing this one out of his sight!

That's an elegant guitar! I love the way the burl in the headplate and rosette and the marbly bridges pins with the same colors tie it all together. Very tasty.

I like the understated, stealth soundport too.

Man, I really wish I had gotten on the list. That headplate is gorgeous.

Many thanks guys!!!

CC132, the guitar will be passing thru Texas on its return trip from California - probably about 2 months from now. If you are interested in demoing the roadtrip guitar for a week or so, just contact me at [email protected] and I can provide you with some of the "participation" details.

Anyone who doesn't get on the list is missing out! Not sure I have played a guitar with sound and tone that appealed to me as much as that. Just to remind, Ryan put some photos in the Roadtrip thread that were also very good.

Hey Simon,
When is your guitar scheduled to make its stop in Minnesota? I'll have to make sure to visit Chris when it does.

Maybe around 20 days plus the time necessary for shipping. I have been giving folks about 10 days with the instrument and there are currently 2 more people before Chris. The best thing would be to contact him and have him call you when the guitar arrives since it is hard to predict the exact timeframe.

Would love to hear your opinion on the instrument.

Thanks,
Simon
