John, that rosette looks fantastic. Four diamond cutters later, I'd say it was quite worth the effort. I admire the fact that you're not one of those "ten minute rosette" guys. The rosette is sort of the main signature piece of a custom guitar, and the ones you make are always over the top.

So the gentleman for whom is am building this guitar wants a little lapis in the back strip. The task was to cut the stone accurately enough to inlay into thr back between the purfling. I jury rigged this thing using a diamond cutoff wheel I have had for so long I’ve forgotten where it came from or when I got it. A shout out to never throwing stuff away.


The results. It will be faded in and out with the black purfling when the guitar is finished

It’s hard leveling lapis. I found these little diamond encrusted bits with an eighth inch shank that work nicely in a dremmel. If the lapis is ground down to about a thousand of an inch below the surface of the woods, and then the wood is sanded/ scraped flush with the lapis things work nicely. Working with stone has been a learning experience.

I think the lapis looks great and goes so nicely with the Brazilian and Lucky Strike woods. Can hardly wait to see more.
