Lovely shade of blue and contrast, as Klaus notes.

Wow!!! What a gorgeous rosette. That Lapis is just amazing. So far every detail of this build is extra special. Can’t wait to see this one come together

John, that rosette looks fantastic. Four diamond cutters later, I'd say it was quite worth the effort. I admire the fact that you're not one of those "ten minute rosette" guys. The rosette is sort of the main signature piece of a custom guitar, and the ones you make are always over the top.

Thanks mucho. I often get the inspiration for more decorative rosettes from you so thanks for that motivation

That goes both ways, Amigo. If I'm feeling creatively stumped, I go looking for your current build threads.

Default Back work

So the gentleman for whom is am building this guitar wants a little lapis in the back strip. The task was to cut the stone accurately enough to inlay into thr back between the purfling. I jury rigged this thing using a diamond cutoff wheel I have had for so long I’ve forgotten where it came from or when I got it. A shout out to never throwing stuff away.

The results. It will be faded in and out with the black purfling when the guitar is finished

The other side of the back

Reinforcement in a LS cutoff from the top.

Looking great, John!

Any plans for Lapis in the end graft or headstock?

Top’s on

Lapis in the end graft spaced so an end pin will fit

It’s hard leveling lapis. I found these little diamond encrusted bits with an eighth inch shank that work nicely in a dremmel. If the lapis is ground down to about a thousand of an inch below the surface of the woods, and then the wood is sanded/ scraped flush with the lapis things work nicely. Working with stone has been a learning experience.

The lapis may have been a learning experience, but you have done amazingly well with it. A very quick learner you are.
I think the lapis looks great and goes so nicely with the Brazilian and Lucky Strike woods. Can hardly wait to see more.
Way to go John.
