Default Martin strings Facebook page

Hi all,
I recently got myself blocked from making comments and liking any and all status updates on the Martin strings Facebook fan page, why you may ask? I made a comment that they probably deemed inappropriate, I personally did not see the problem as the comment I made was on a page for a competition for a Martin guitar. The problem I found was that the competition was only open to U.S. Residents only as are many of these competitions endorsed by and run by Martin strings. My comment reflected my dismay at this and was quickly removed from the comment box and I was then blocked from making anymore comments has anyone else had this happen to them? By the way my comment was " yet another competition endorsed by Martin strings that no one outside the U.S. Is allowed to enter, is this because Martin strings are only available in the U.S.?
Let me know your thoughts,
Paul.

Pointless to comment or argue about rules they set for contests. Most times, these are in place due to not wanting to comply with every country's laws covering how these have to be run. They would also have to secure the participation of the designated European, Asian, and Antarctic or wherever distributors and it's not worth the cost and complexity.

I know there's no point arguing, I just think it was a bit petty of them to bar me from future comments and liking status updates, plus it was a nice guitar lol

Well, having not actually witnessed the events or read the complete context of your comments, it's impossible for me to comment on whether you should have been banned or not. I'm thinking that there may be legal or contractual reasons the contest is open to USA residents only, that may have to do with issues surrounding exporting. But I shouldn't even speculate about that, because I don't know the circumstances.

But I will say paulie2876 that it's nothing to get upset about. If Martin Strings doesn't want any negative comments (and reading your comment, it didn't look that negative lol) and feels like they need to ban you, it's their problem. Go on with life. Hey I know what to do - Go buy a Gibson, that'll show them!

Hey BTW let me say Welcome to the AGF!

Yes it is petty. They could have removed the comment without banning you.

A Gibson would be really nice but with my budget I think it would be an Epiphone which is not such a bad thing as I have had one before and enjoyed playing it. I think I'll just, have a one man, personal protest and buy a different make of strings hehe. Besides I think my wife would go nuts with me if I bought or won another guitar right now and thanks for the welcome Mark

Often when a comment is removed the poster will come back with another comment in short order so it's easier to just eliminate the offending poster all together. BTW, it should be noted that when someone is blocked/reported, Facebook makes a note of it, enough reports and the account is closed.

I agree that it's easier to ban the poster, but the OP's question didn't sound like an offending post. I suppose that's just big companies for you. I doubt that a small firm would ban someone for similar comments, but then I doubt they'd be offering up a free guitar either.

Are you talking about the OM-18 Authentic giveaway? If so, that isn't Martin's contest, it's American Songwriter magazine's contest. Martin just supplied the prize.

Venture a wild guess that "American Songwriter" doesn't have a big international subscriber base.

Yes, this was the competition, as I said in the comment Martin strings had endorsed the competition, there was a comment left by them saying that to me and a guy from Canada.

Sometimes, when you join an ongoing conversation, you think of it as that moment in time.

But, what you don't know is what may have happened previous to you joining the conversation. Perhaps there was already a series of posts which turned ugly...and they were deleted.

Along you come, with what seems to you as a fairly innocuous comment. It gets deleted, because they see it as the re-entry of that conversation. And, you think it was an overreaction. But, had you seen the prior posts...maybe you'd understand.

Just sayin'...it's a possibility.
