Default My First Post - Crazy, Gnarls Barkley Cover

Hey there!
This is my first post to the forum.
I'm a long time acoustic guitar player but only recently really got back into playing.
Last summer I enrolled my boys in guitar lessons and instead of sitting around for an hour waiting for them to finish their lessons I decided to go ahead and enroll myself in some voice lessons while I was there. I think I was probably the oldest student of the entire school but I had a lot of fun and learned quite a bit in a couple of months.
Here's a quick and dirty cover of Crazy by Gnarles Barkley that I made.
As bad as it might be, I assure you that there is a huge improvement from what I used to sound like!

I am not sure why you qualified that as bad, that sounded really good. Find the perfect song and you will nail it, your voice sounds really good to me.

Really good! A lot of depth and soul to your voice in that song. And a nice guitar accompaniment.

Thank you guys! You're all too kind.
I'm going to try to fish out some of my old "pre-lesson" recordings for comparison.
I still can't sing without headphone monitoring + accompaniment. I'm not sure if it's just a matter of more practice/training or if my ears are just going bad with age.

Hey Jason,

I think quick and dirty is apt. At the start of the video, I wasn't sure if I was watching a warmup or a performance, and then there was someone walking in the background, and even a full-on photo bomb.

But oh my, that was great. Your voice was fantastic - no doubt the lessons were a good investment. And your guitar arrangement, though it started simply, had such good tone and rhythm and gave the whole piece a very specific texture. And the little riff at the end was a nice dessert to wrap it up.

Side note - I do think that was a perfect song choice. Fit well with your arrangement and vocals.

So glad you shared - keep 'em coming!

Cheers,

-Dave
