Default My Strat got new plastic today

My son ordered a Strat direct from Fender, using the build tool, back two years or so. He has since sold it to me, and I really enjoy it. Hard tail. Locking tuners. Interesting maple neck with rosewood fretboard, mahogany body with red translucent stain, and some special pickups. I’m not sure what they are but it sounds great.

Anyways, I forgot I bought a creme colored almost white guard and plastic for a partscaster I never made.

I love how it looks!

I like the creme dress up kit on that translucent red body. Very crisp and clean looking.
I don't think I've ever seen a Fender neck where the fretboard looks countersunk into the neck media, seeing how the maple looks to be wrapping around the rosewood board and fret ends in these photos.
And is there a zero fret up at the nut? Very, very different.
Enjoy that hotrod, Sal.

Lovely! It is the same basic color scheme as my G&L S-500, but I like your bound fretboard!

This guitar came direct from Fender… it has this plastic flight case… I need to go check all the specs. I would have never thought to order the fretboard like my son did. I think it’s neat too!

I like that much better!

I had a late 80s MIJ strat that looked just like it.

That one was a strat I never should have sold too.

I’ve never seen a maple neck with rosewood board “bound” like that. Have you Bob? Not even by another manufacturer. It looks channeled into the maple, not binding at all. Look at the shot from the side, with the black fretboard. Really interesting. Really unique.

If you are talking the poly TSA lock approved cases ? I really like them I have them for both my Tele and my PRS CE 24 ( which fits perfectly)

They are the two next to fireplace rock (I put the stickers on so I can tell which is which )

No, I haven't. It does look inset, and I'm as jealous as all get out.

Dang it, Sal. Now you’ve given us something else to lust after, as though we needed any more impetus for our GAS.

That is a really cool looking neck for sure. That’s gotta be a maple binding that gives it the appearance of the neck being routed out and the rosewood fretboard being inset into it.

Fender calls that a channel bound neck, first introduced in 2013....I've seen then on some Eric Johnson Strats...

By the way, Martin achieves a similar tactile effect in their Standard Reimagined Series by "pocket fretting" their fingerboard. When you pocket fret, you cut the fret slots just short of the edges of the fingerboard and then cut the tangs to match the length of those shortened slots. The result is a smooth, undisturbed edge to the fingerboard.

I feel certain that Fender's Channel Bound necks are also pocket fretted because the fret ends overlap the maple edge of the channel yet the tangs don't.
