Default David Newton Guitars - what I am building - and have built

As a sponsor here I would like to show some of what I am building, both new for sale and guitars that have gone to customers.

My new guitars for sale, ready to ship, are in posts 2, 8, & 10 of this thread.

I am a small builder and repairman, and my guitars from the mid 1970's until today number somewhere over 100.
My building style is traditional, simple, not highly ornamented, hot hide glue construction, french polish shellac finish.
The guitars are lightly built but strong, Red and Carpathian Spruce mostly, Honduras Mahogany mostly, Cuban when I can get it, other back & side wood if I like it. Rosewood only occasionally.
Because repair is a large part of my work, I no longer build on commission. I build to my style, a few each year, and sell them.

Here's Daddy StovePipe on his Grand Concert, a 000 guitar, playing it hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkWFOZne5VE

David! Welcome!!

For those of you who don’t know much about David’s builds, they are amazing…..most are light / resonant / and rich with tone and clarity…..I’ve had three over the years…..and loved all of them…..I especially miss a 00 that David built with cherry back and sides that was amazing …..

Glad you posted and hope you are doing well!

For Sale - No shipping on this one.
This guitar is a long-scale OM of my best Brazilian Rosewood and Red Spruce.
It is from a pattern of an early '30's Martin OM, and designed as a Bluegrass, flat-pick lead guitar.
The fretboard is Bois de Rose (Dalbergia maritima), and the bridge Brazilian. Binding is Cocobolo. The dark Honduras Mahogany neck is very old wood.
The tone of this guitar is vintage Brazilian rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, that I love.
For sale in Beaumont, Tx. Pick up only. $8,000. with case.

Default Yay!

One of my first mandolins was a lovely one of David's, a pancake style that I dearly miss. I can only imagine how wonderful his guitars sound!

Welcome, David.

FOR SALE
A 12 fret OM-Dreadnaught, of nicely flamed Cuban Mahogany and Red Spruce. It is unusual in that it is not a slope-shoulder, but a normal Dread shape, so the bridge is farther down into the center of the lower bout.
For the strumming singer, or smaller person, who doesn't need access to the upper frets, the OM-D specs give a slightly less deep body for comfort.
Other woods to mention are the Padauk fretboard and bridge, Rosewood binding, Ebony headplate and Honduras Mahogany neck. Back & end wedge & bridge pins are Rosewood. Waverly machines.

For sale and ready to ship. $4000. including case. Shipping extra.

David, let me add another welcome! It’s good to see ya here, and I’m enjoying what you’ve been showing. Perhaps I could nudge you a bit to share your all-pine guitar with us? I’d love to see some pics of that.

Steve

Welcome from Washington, DC as well. I remember playing one of your 00s at Hoink’s. Fantastic guitar I would love to be playing this evening.

Several years ago in Austin Vintage Guitars I played a super nice David Newton guitar, seemed like an OM size or maybe a 00. Really good guitar, dang near bought it. I always keep an eye open to see another one of those.
