Hi All,
This is one of my favorite gifts ever from my oldest daughter - a recording together. It's a Taylor Swift song, which is not a surprise request from a 17 year old, but it also originally featured Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol. She's a much better musician than I, and she's an actual singer, so relative to what I typically post here, it's a huge step up. It's mostly focused on acoustic piano, with acoustic guitar highlights, and a few electric bits to broaden the tone toward the end. I hope you enjoy it, we got a kick out of recording it. Cheers, -Dave |

The funny thing about this is that I typically do all the parts in all my recordings, so I just figure out for myself what and how to harmonize. It was quite the change being coached by my daughter in how to (try to) sing my parts in this. I think she's a pretty neat kid - thanks so much for watching and the kind words. Hope all is well with you and yours, Cheers, -Dave |

Thank you so much for this! I’m a big Taylor Swift fan (I just produced a concert of her songs for the New York Sheet Music Society last month, pressing the point that Taylor Swift’s songs are on par with the Great American Songbook—Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, et al.—and yet, I didn’t know this song! It’s terrific. And nice job with the performances.

I love this!!!!
I can't wait to do something similar with my boys! But alas, with middle school just around the corner I might have to wait a bit since I'm sure they're gonna be "too cool" to do anything like this with their geezer dad. |

You would be hard pressed to find two more adamant 'Swifties' than my two daughters who can never find enough superlatives about Taylor Swift. And though our musical tastes often diverge, I do agree with them, Taylor writes and sings great stuff. It wasn't a hard sell when Kaitlyn suggested this song. When you talk about the Great American Songbook, you may find it funny that there is actually a course at Stanford University about one of her songs: https://www.nme.com/news/music/unive...ersion-3411238So I guess you aren't the only one who thinks her music will stand the test of time (and I concur with you as well)! Thanks so much for watching and for the comments. Cheers, -Dave |

I hear you! This is Kaitlyn's last year living at home as she's off to college in the fall, and it's been some time since we've done the proverbial 'hey, let's all play and sing some songs together.' But it was lots of fun, so don't give up hope! Thanks so much for watching and commenting and, I might add, welcome to the forum! Cheers, -Dave |

Thanks for watching and for the kind comment! I know you know how much your comments mean to me. I can't help but smile thinking about watching your 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' with your granddaughter knowing I had my own family collaboration in progress. (This took well over a month to pull together - apparently schoolwork and high school friends are important!) Hope you are doing well. Cheers! -Dave |
