Hi Rick,

It is good to hear from you!

Mary here. Ohhh, yes! The Diamond went places we couldn't take it while working jobs outside of the guitar shop front. We chose to never sell the McKnight Diamond. It was designed by me as a gift to Tim in honor of our 25th wedding anniversary and built as a gift to me for same purpose. It's the one that made me realize guitars are not just instruments but they can quickly become a part of the family treasures for different reasons.

There are guys who can never make it to the shows like the Artisan guitar show just like Healdsburg was out of reach for many in the past. We haven't given it a thought in a while. Maybe another road trip guitar should be in the making. How about we let you all vote. YAY or NAY.

I think we have a dreadnaught that might need to see the world. My luthier is the boss. I tell folks all the time, "If you don't like the way they look, then that's on me. If you do not like the way they sound then that's on him."

Hmmm ... a road trip for the guitar. It really has been a while. Who might want in on the rules IF the McKnight luthier is game for this again?

Hi Mary good to know. Another roadtrip would be fun.

Another McKnight guitar road trip? That does sound intriguing.

Neil will be checking out the details of the build and maybe taking pictures of this part and that. How is your guitar build coming along?

I will? OK. I'll have to clear it with my boss though.

Build #2 is about 95% done so give it another year! I hasn't sailed down the stairs yet which is a good sign.

I think we might organize a road trip after we get rested from the shows and McJam 16.

When we build custom guitars Tim will typically add a strip of shims to travel with the guitar. I have been told by customers that playability is different as seasons change and also as seasons of life changes. I understand this as I'm not a guitar player but I do still enjoy writing snail mail letters over todays world of computer contact. I find holding the ink pen of different sizes proves that personal preferences of the shape and size of the ink pen has changed over the seasons of life for me. In early childhood I held fat crayons. As I matured the smaller crayons met my needs. Today I like a pen that has a little more width and a bit of rubber for grip. I will promise not to request my luthier to build a rubber guitar for our older players, but you never know what will show up on the McJam door prize tables from year to year.

This year we will have our 16th annual McJam. We always hope to see newbie McJammers for the fun weekend. I always search out any sort of door prizes year round and hope to see something unique pop up. I've been fortunate to have some highly sought after items and also some pretty quirky and fun items. We never know what will show up, but if it is on the table it goes to someone!

During the McJam Tim's work bench is a favorite place to get a quick lesson on a certain part of the build. We typically have two classes, one per day. The following few pictures are a quick show of the end pin process.

First the hole needs to be centered.

It is not wise to think this felt can be skipped. Be sure to add this!

And just that quick (like on TV ... yeah, right!)

We have enjoyed all the emails, messages and attention the McKnight Bullet guitar has been receiving. It's a guitar with history like no other. If only that tree could talk! Be sure to stop by the McKnight booth at the Artisan guitar show 2023 to fill your eyes with the wonderment of this guitar. Tim will be happy to tell the minor history about the board that sat in the shop of his dad since 1940.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to June too. July is typically a busy month around here.

Just days from now we will be seeing lots of people with lots of talent at the Artisan guitar show. This is exciting. Once we return from the Artisan guitar show we will dig into the the next event.

The McJam is in the planning. Tim will have his class on the Fret board Revival kit. Bring your well played guitar and lets see if he picks yours to clean. Invite a friend who appreciates and respects the quality of a nice guitar who hasn't paid that much attention to his fret board lately. Tell him he needs to see the luthier so they can discuss why this is important. Tim will have small tin on sale at the McJam at the cost of $10.00.

Steak-n-it food truck plans to be here on Friday.

Coffee and Crumbs will be here on Saturday.
Thank you for supporting them while you are here. Keeping food truck employees happy relieves physical and mental for all the McJam kitchen helpers.

Another non-guitar company will be representing what they do concerning Guitars for Vets. Maybe you should contact one of your old service buddies to enjoy a day or the weekend of music with you here with us June 23 and 24.

Door prizes are always appreciated. Everyone likes a freebie. The table already has a few fun things on it.

I am already planning a few patio snacks. More is good. Make suggestions and I'll see what I can do to make that happen. Watergate specialist was Dolly, my mom. Pam knows it is what Steve looks for. I think we can look for the blue bowl to have that.

McJam band members are treasured.

Come dressed proper. Red shirts Friday. Black shirts Saturday.

No low cut neck slits in McKnight t-shirts. No exposed midriff, no short shorts.

Typically after the McJam I am asked about videos. Rodger and Kathy are our video experts. Please speak to them if there is something you desire.

Thank you to all of you who help set up and take down tents, tables, chairs and all the behind the scenes things you do.

McJam 16 is now officially in the books. Attendance was down a bit but we had a great time reuniting with old friends and meeting a few new ones. Great food and great music, what’s not to like. Thanks to all of you who attended.

Yes, I hope that this year is an aberration and that things pick up. I enjoyed the food trucks and am glad that everyone enjoyed my wife's cookies. It was good to see you and Mary and Adrienne and her family, as well as Roger and Dennis and Steve. I missed seeing Bruce and Ross and hope to see them again. I can't remember the last time I saw Kurt or Todd or Don H.

Thank you once again for allowing me to be loft security. I know that it's an imposition on my part but I appreciate it greatly. I'm sorry but I can't really give good reviews for the motels down in Marion but am willing to explore other accommodations so that you can sleep more soundly.

Speaking of which, I was up until 1AM Sunday morning playing the guitars that were out. Don't worry, I handled them with kid gloves and was mindful of the low ceilings/fans.

I enjoyed the slope MacNaughts and the square shouldered MacNaught with the green floral rosette (the one with the Torrified top.) I found myself enjoying the power of the Kokopelli and grooved out like the little guy on the fretboard. The spalted maple trim gives it an eclectic image that liked. I also really liked all the blue touches on the Southwestern and the purple ones on the Spruce. Is the latter trimmed with pauduk or purple heart?

I also enjoyed spending some time during the day on Saturday with Adrienne's (sp?) and the Brazilian/Adi Highlanders that were in the back room of your home. Were the latter 24.9" scale? I found them to be quite comfortable; I've been having more and more trouble playing fingerstyle on my 25.5" Larrivee without relying on the use of a capo. I hope that somebody can give Adrienne's creation with a home so that she builds another. I know well that it's not a cheap hobby!

Next year I hope to bring my bicycle again (I promise not to give myself heat stroke or a concussion) and maybe some better equipment (like Roger and Steve) so that I can record my auditions with your instruments. I did some videos with my iPHone but the audio and the color balance were not that good.

PS: thank you for looking over my whittled creations. They enjoyed the environment and seemed to calm down and enjoyed me playing them. I am building up the courage to enact your suggestions but need to find my fret press. I'm tempted to put the blue strings on my No. 2 and the red ones on my No. 1.

Thanks for being loft security Neil. It was certainly appreciated. Please tell your wife that here cookies were a hit. I finished off the last 4 yesterday. Wow, they were awesome! Roger’s chocolate chip monster cookies were pretty darn tasty too.

The guitar in the loft with the red tree inlayed on the fretboard is of Bloodwood as is the bindings.

Take a piece of 1” wide x 1/4” thick aluminum, brass or copper bar stock, long enough to span 3 frets and clamp your loose fret down to the fretboard then wick in thin CA. Let it dry for an hour our two even after spritzing it with accelerator and that should hold the fret down. Immediately wipe up an excess CA with acetone.

Adrianne’s “Tree” guitar was sold and will likely be seen and heard next year.
