Larivee's 000-40R has everything I want in a guitar other than it's 25.5" scale length. I have half a mind to do a custom order for one with a 24.9" scale. This would cost an extra $350, which is a tad hard to stomach, but I think for what is otherwise a dream guitar it might be worth it. My only concern is the body of the guitar is usually built to be ideally suited to the 25.5" scale. Would my custom order be built with the 24.9" taken into account or would I have to worry about things like the top and bracing possibility being thicker than ideal to accommodate what would otherwise be a longer scale, higher tension guitar?
Would a 5/8" difference in scale length even be significant enough to worry about something like this? I might be overthinking this but would love to hear what others think. https://www.larrivee.com/products/000-40r-legacy-series |

Larrivee is a terrific company, and I am sure you would have no problems at all with just going to the slightly shorter scale length...other than the upcharge seems rather steep for the change you want. But...why not call Larrivee and chat with them about it. I am sure they would put your mind well at ease. duff Be A Player...Not A Polisher |

A quick calculation from https://tension.stringjoy.com gives me a difference in string tension between a 25.5" scale neck and a 24.9" one of only 5%. That's with a 12 - 54 set of light gauge strings. I plugged in a 13-56 medium set for the 24.9 neck and got a 9% increase in string tension over the light gauge I could be wrong but I recall reading that Larrivee's are designed for medium gauges to cover the range of string sets their customers will end up playing. With a shorter scale neck you'll be well within their tolerance between different string gauges. I think you'll be ok.

DON'T WORRY! The folks at Larrivee know what they are doing.
I used to have a short scale Larrivee and it was simply wonderful. |
