The one in the video was a prototype made by another company. It had some different features.

Pardon me if it was mentioned but I missed it, but do these new guitars have spruce tops or cedar tops like the original run of Tacoma Chiefs?

Both tops are available, backed by mahogany or cedar.

Cedar/locust sounds like an interesting wood combination. I have zero experience with locust as a tonewood, so I have zero idea of how that would sound.

Ok, the report is that I got it and sent it back for a different one. More on that later once said new one arrives. The people at Gruhns and George have been amazing to work with, responsive and incredibly helpful.
The guitar is super loud, like shockingly so for its size and that little bitty tear drop soundhole. Very clean note and string separation. A joy to play cuz of the size and how big a sound it makes. It’s satin like a Martin 15 series or the like. Feels fast and smooth. It has a big wood barn door on the bottom where the bottom strap button is. I ordered the electronics so I am not sure if the purely acoustic ones will have that, but I’d assume they will for future pickup addition or repairs. It’s actually pretty cool looking. The neck is very slim with a hint of a v. 1 3/4 nut. Bolts on like the Tacomas. No pickguard, which will show your playing immediately, especially on a thin satin finish on cedar. I’d suggest they put a clear one at least in the bag for customer to decide. It comes with Gator transit bag, which is very nice, similar to Tan Taylor bags or so with a couple upgrades, but not as rugged and amazing as gator icon series but $130 street price is a decent case for a guitar of this echelon. It’s definitely more of a working man guitar and not a case queen to handle with white gloves. I think the design is utilitarian in most ways to hit this sonic breadth and feel that George envisioned and it definitely is built to do that over look fancy or be a work of art in the way other guitars may. Overall, super cool and will be a winner for those who know what they’re buying. The other one should be here end of next week or early the following where I’ll do another review with photos and such. |

From what I've seen and heard, it sounds like you're paying about $2000 for buying George's name. Just based on the looks, almost $3000 for one of those is lunacy.
