Default Another from “Old & in the Way”

This song was written by Peter Rowan and was one of many greats from that record. Learned a few a few weeks ago and they reminded me of how awesome the whole record was.

Wonderful song and nice version Joe. I used to play it a lot, still play it sometimes. Really pretty tune…

Hey, nice work on that great old tune, and I love the old Yamaha, of course.

I have always been partial to the version Peter and Tony Rice cut for one of their albums, but I love all the versions.

Nice job on this, Started! Nice relaxing background in your video, too!

Hope all is well there!

Yeah, man, I miss Tony a lot, just like Garcia. They were my 2 all-time favorite players.

It was a pleasure checking out your pickin' and singing, my friend.

Like I said in reply to Ray's version - at heart I'm a bluegrasser and I like this tune a lot faster. I do it in G, though Peter Rowan usually does it in A.

I also do it with a BG band and I'll either be playing fiddle, guitar, mandolin or bass on it. IMO, like most bluegrass, it's hard to do it justice as a solo piece. It adds so much to have a banjo and fiddle and of course high lonesome harmonies.

I did enjoy your interpretation of it.

Thanks for listening. Mine is definitely on the slow side and more like a ballad than a BG tune but the song is pretty enough for either.

That takes me back, so much so that I tried to buy the CD. Seventy-five bucks on Amazon.

Anyway, I enjoyed hearing you play it. Thanks for the treat.

Update: eBay, $20. On the way. Can’t wait to have this again.

I’m suddenly realizing what a fossil I am, wanting to own CDs.

Me, too. There was just nobody like him musically. The guys whom I have liked post-Garcia are Steve Kimmock, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Barry Sleiss, and Neal Casal (RIP). I also love Terry Haggerty, but he doesn't really play Dead-type stuff. John Scofield usually melts my face as well. And Jack Pearson can just play anything.
