Default Lewitt or Warm....the best $300 mic ?

which is the best , and for what, and why? The Warm 47 Jr. or the Lewitt 440 Pure ? Or am I missing a sleeper? ...for voice and acoustic instruments. Understanding that the $300bucks transfers to $400bucks where I live, so any mic above $300 would only be that much higher or more. And the Lewitt and Warm are easily available on amazon, where others might not be so easily obtainable, like Roswell for example. A possible sleeper ....the Avantone cv12 ?? The Bstock at sweetwater has it for 320. Or the SE 2200 also for 6000p on amazon ? I want to go to another level above my KingBee, which I really like. 6000p is about my limit/thanks for your opinions.

I have a Roswell mini K47, so that would be what I would get if I didn't already have one. (I'd get it directly from Matt at Roswell.too...)

It took me a couple of tries to get a set of Avantone sdcs that would actually stay together, so I'm not terribly impressed with their level of quality. Hopefully the CV12 is better.

Be cautious of any mics "readily available" on Amazon. Some reputable companies such as Rode have in the past posted warnings posted on their websites relating counterfeit versions of their products for sale on the Amazon website. You wouldn't think they would go to the trouble of doing knock-offs of mics, but where there's a buck to be made someone will do it. There are loads of counterfeit SM57s marketed every year, so do use caution.

I'd suggest a miktek mk300 over the 47 jr. I haven't tried any of lewitt stuff yet, but I've been considering a 441 flex.

Interesting mic. I don't know how it escaped my attention. Can you give reason(s) ? I'll keep it on my radar. See if it pops up on amazon.mx.

Rudy...I believe I mentioned Roswell. And avoiding amazon in mexico is like avoiding the shuttle relay on the space station. Impossible. If I could give my money to anyone else , I'd definitely be doing so...but alas. And the roswells cost above $300. which would make them closer to 450 here. If you get out a map, you see there's an international border down there.

One of the Roswell mini Ks.

Or between the Warm and the Lewitt, the Lewitt.

I just like the sound of it. On the warm side, but still sounds detailed to me. I've used it as the center and the 90⁰ mic in a mid/side pair for drums/room. I like it on acoustic guitar. I like it on vocals and strings, especially in figure 8. It's a 3 pattern fet mic, and at least when I bought it, miktek was claiming they were assembling it in nashville with a US made transformer. It's the most mic I could find for the money. To be fair, I've only heard other peoples' recordings with the 47 jr, and I've never put it side by side with the miktek. Lewitt is an interesting company, so I'd be curious to see what they can do at this price point, but I'm more interested in the 441 flex for it's long list of tricks.

So I guess all that to say, it's just an opinion, but maybe take a look at it.

Well, your post is confusing.

How would I know where you live by reading your first post?

You're forced to spend your money at Amazon, but directly reference Sweetwater?

Sorry, I'm ignorant of how international borders influence how you spend your money.

I’ve had an MK300 for some years and they are a nice mic at that price point. Shows up in a few “top 10 under $500” lists (e.g. Sweetwater). They seem to go on sale for a super price of $200 every so often so worth watching for that. I’m not wild about their shock mount if I had to mount/dismount a lot as it’s a bit more plastic-y than the C214 I have - maybe they’ve improved it from the original design? But, sonically, I think it sounds a bit flatter and works better for my voice, and it’s multi-pattern.

thanks ..I'll watch some review ( which are mostly meaningless) and keep an eye out. If people are comparing it to the warm jr and the lewitt440, then at $200 it would be a bargain. I wish there was a technical microphone reviewer...like Krause does for interfaces, but I haven't seen one. thanks Keith

The 3 Zigma CHI line of mics are certainly sleeper mics. Their modularity and capsule varieties make it easy (or difficult depending on how you look at it) to grow a decent collection of mics at reasonable prices.

Try Ty Ford, an AGF member. I think this is his site:

https://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com/

Also Sound On Sound does pretty technical reviews of everything including mics.

But I'm not sure technical helps with mics as much as some other things, other than a few basics like self-noise. Specs are one thing, in use, in your studio, with your voice/guitar is another.

thanks Doug....When a s on s review comes up on google for a particular mic, I always click....but like you say...it's us humans that are the magic sauce for mics. Yet guys like Krause always go alittle deeper. Ty's blog looks great...if he only had a table of contents !
...and scrolling down Ty's site to 2015, I was nicely surprised to see b&h's mic room. That would be a day well spent.

the sleeper I'm looking at now is the 512 audio skylight. Anyone hear of those? 512 Audio is owned by Warm. the skylight is tuned for voice and has a 34mm diaphragm. https://512audio.com/product/skylight

The biggest problem with someone suggesting a mic is that it could very well sound great on their voice or guitar, but not be well suited for yours.

That’s why some mics are so highly prized for their neutrality (like a U67) or for their ability to make most sources sound great (like a U47 or M49). Those are all mics that you can buy & know they will be great. But, they’re also all super expensive (with a” real “ U47 running around $30k in very good condition), which makes the $8k for a U67 almost seem like a deal (almost [emoji2957]).

The reality is that the cheaper mics will have far more variation than any of the classic Studio workhorses. You may just need to make your best guess & take a chance (but check on the return policy).
