I got a store ukulele A string up to D and it did not break. I think I could reach E5 since the scale length is similar to a full size violin. Do ukulele strings break?

Just curious, why would you do that to a store's ukulele? The next buyer will get dead strings.
The soprano ukulele string tension is pretty low and many ukulele strings are based off classical guitar strings, so they can take a lot more tension than their standard tuning requires. However, they are still strings and will break when enough tension is applied. |

My wound g broke a couple of weeks ago.......I had extra's. Not sure a wound g is going to work with the tailpiece on my resonator uke. The string sheared at the tailpiece.

Take it easy, you could break the ukulele or snap the bridge off

Here's a way keeping string 4 tuned re-entrant (4th string an octave higher) using the existing uke strings. Of course you could also buy a thicker string for #4 and tune it down an octave for the "G" in the same range as the mandolin.

To the OP:
What is it with you and always tuning UP to where the instrument is not supposed to be tuned to??? Maybe you should try a...capo? Seriously... ![]() https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=671348

PS - How about this?: Don't tune it high. Just play it the way it's made to be played. Last edited by Charlie Bernstein; 07-13-2023 at 06:36 AM. |

Just snapped the A. Snapped around D#. Yep ukulele strings do break. First string snapped in about three years.
