Smile Lets see some pics of your Calton Cases!

I just upgraded my Mayes SD-43 order to include a Calton case in Van Deusen Blue with a Silver Interior its the Standard not the deluxe.

I was curious if any one here would be up for sharing some pics of Calton Cases. I couldn't find a pic of them in the color I'm getting and they don't have a lot of pics on their site. Thanks!!!

mine is red with plush green velvet, no pics, but it isn't a case for the weak. You need some muscle for it. I would rather have the humidity controlled one that comes with the McPhersons. To me they are alot better.

Mine is also red but with plush gold lining (just happens to have been my grandfather's horse racing colours in the early part of the previous century).

It, too, is VERY heavy!! Needs wheels

I'll trust it on the plane, however!

That makes me want two things...an $800 Calton case (the yellow is lovely) and a guitar worth putting in an $800 Calton case. Actually if I ever had to travel on a long trip with my best guitar, a 30+ year old Japanese classical, I'd probably spring for one of those cases and chalk it up to part of the cost of the trip.

I've ordered one for my new Brook build since the faux cloth coverings on my Taylor and Cedar Creek cases get snagged and tear.

Having seen Martin Simpson's Sobell Calton case I've also gone for yellow as no one's gonna sneak it out of a dimly lit club without being seen

Default Calton

Hey you got the ketchup and mustard model. It's actually pretty cool. Does it make your guitar smell like a weener?

I have 2 Caltons-light grey/pewter and light green with pewter. Love the cases, but they are heavy.

I have a question for you guys, how heavy are the caltons exactly? I've been curious about these cases ever since I heard about them, but I haven't got a chance to see one. I'm using Hiscox cases and I'm going to get 2 Karura cases soon.

I know the Karura ones are a lot lighter but they are a lot more expensive too just like Accord Cases. Lets see some more photos!!!

My Ryan guitar is on order, and I'm thinking of what color Calton case to get. Please post some pics of your Calton case if you can - I'd like to see what the different color combos look like. thanks.

I don't have pics yet but mine is light green with gold lining. I left my guitar at work overnight so I'll have to wait tomorrow to see if I can post some pictures.

I guess I will reply to my old thread with my choice for color. Van Duesen Blue with Silver Interior!

For a while I was dealing directly with the folks at Calton Canada, and we got talking about some of the more, shall we say, VIVID color combinations. They told me they had one dealer in Japan whose standard order always included what the Calton folks called "the grapefruit model": yellow exterior with hot pink upholstery velvet inside.

It's hard to imagine a bluegrass musician opening up a case like that without being hooted out of the parking lot picking session, but Japan has a different culture, obviously!

I used to have a Calton mandolin case in the blue grey default color, which I sold when I sold that mandolin. I still own three Calton guitar cases: one Canadian-made in russet brown, and two British-made Caltons, one in shiny Navy blue with red upholstery and the other in a pebble grain British Racing Green exterior with a fairly dismal-looking light green interior fabric.

The story on that second British-made Calton was that John Pearse was about to make a trip over to the UK and was getting some Caltons for himself and Mary Faith, and asked me if I needed one. I'd owned the blue case for a couple of years at that point and was totally sold on them, and had a pre-war style 000-28 copy on order from Scott Baxendale, so I said:

"Sure, great, I need one for a 14 fret Triple O."

John asked: "What color?"

I said: "How about British Racing Green? I've always loved that color, but will probably never get to own an Aston Martin. So a Calton case will be the next best thing!"

John said: "Mar-velous!! I'll see if he carries that color!" (If you ever spent any time with John, you probably know that "mar-velous!!" was John's sort of all-purpose adjective...)

Anyway, I was half-joking about the color and more less forgot about it until a few months later when I got a call from John, who told me: "Your case is here. I'll ship it up to you."

"Great," I said. "What color is it?"

"British Racing Green, just like you ordered. It's mar-velous!!"

And it was and is, but I'd forgotten to specify a color for the interior, and Mr. Calton used this sickly shade of pale green velvet that's about the shade of the skin tone that deck passengers on the Alaska Marine Highway ferries get when they're on one of the monthly ferry trips out along the Aleutian chain and the ship encounters heavy seas.

That sea-sick sort of skin tone where, first, you're afraid you're gonna to die, and then you're afraid you're NOT gonna die!

Anyway, I don't keep the case open and gaze adoringly at the fabric, so it doesn't really matter WHAT sort of puke green it might be. Plus, John got it for me at his same "personal friend of Mr. Calton" discount, and as with everything else John Pearse ever did, it was a hugely generous gesture.

By the way, this coming Friday is the one year anniversary of John's death. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I really like that shade of blue. I briefly owned a Volkswagen Beetle that was painted a very similar shade.

With that particular car, I liked the paint job better than the rest of the vehicle!
