A great tune from the Old and In The Way album. It's been covered a lot over the years on the forum, most recently by Joe (Started with 1). I've been playing this song for a good while and finally got around to recording it, spurred on a bit by Joe... Just a beautiful song that I don't do justice, but I love playing it. Mixed with headphones, so, not surprisingly I guess, it sounds notably better with headphones than out in a room with speakers.

Nice job on this Ray. Well done! You have kind of a Neil Young sound going there.
I hope you are enjoying your new home in Eugene. - Glenn

There you go! Nothing like a little nudge. Great version and I loved the intro and the layered playing and singing.

Hey, Ray, that was a very heartfelt version of that great old tune. Keep up the good work, my friend. Nice pickin' on the lead parts, too!

Man, you folks are too kind. Really. Appreciate you listening. And Glenn, I don't hear Neil Young in it, but if you do, I'll take that every day and twice on Sunday!
And, yeah, we're really liking Eugene. Just a couple months away from heading back North Carolina for the winter. Kind of bummed to be leaving, but we're expecting a grandson back there in December, so we'll be thrilled to be there for that. And then another granddaughter back here in Eugene shortly after we get back in April. So it's a happy time all around! -Ray

I like the Neil Young vibe too. But at heart I'm a bluegrasser and I like this tune a lot faster. I do it in G, though Peter Rowan usually does it in A.
I also do it with a BG band and I'll either be playing fiddle, guitar, mandolin or bass on it. I enjoyed hearing your interpretation of it. |

I like your tempo on that one, Ray. I also think that some of the bluegrass has gotten so fast that it takes away from the soul of it, almost a technique over substance kind of thing. The classic Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and Stanley Brothers tempos from the 40s and 50s are just about right, in my book. Jerry Douglas agrees, so there you go, lol.

Thanks, Ray. The layers in your playing and the tempo were spot on. You have kinda a gravelly voice to my ears which fit that song very well. And a good song it is. Good job.
