There are lots of electric players here so I'm sure you're always welcome! In fact, we'll expect a NGD post for your spiffy new electric when it arrives.

Smile Don’t Go!

You don’t have to leave the acoustic guitar forum!

Plenty of switch hitters here… And I’m sure we’re all hoping this works for you.

Best of luck, especially on the tinnitus.

Cheers

Paul

I received a Affinity Strat for Xmas back in 2000.. burst...Maple neck Not being satisfied with the electronics' I bought a cream 2-P90 pickguard, 2-mitey mite P90's, Stew Mac volume-Tone and 5-way switch, blocked the whammy and it was my gigging guitar for 5-6 years. I still have it but it sits in its case since I started playing acoustic more but I do pull it out once in awhile.
Not sure how the new Affinities are built but mine is great...It is thinner then a standard Strat so I couldn't use a stacked(push-pull) type switch... I even used 13-56 strings and it handled them fine
I'd say if you want to try out a Tele a Affinity is the way to go just in case you don't like the feel of it...But don't ditch it because of the tone..Thats the cheap electronics not the guitar

I just want something for playability and keep practicing. Is the Squier Affinity Series Telecaster ok?
If anything I might get a mini tube amp to color the sound but its not going to be a rocken.
Please feel free to give advice or even another guitar, thanks!
500 bucks is too much for a Squier Affinity Tele. Squier has the Classic Vibe series, which is uch better than the Affinity and 500 bucks is kind of reasonable price for a CV

The Classic Vibe 50 Series Strats and Teles can be had for under $400 new.
They are mostly very good guitars.

I would go for the Mexico telecaster any day
I’ve had a couple of the affinities and I don’t really like them
Spend a couple hundred bucks more and you get yourself something that’s way better quality
I have tinnitus also
I feel your pain
I’ve had it for about 20 years and still not used to it
I hope yours goes away some day as I do mine
Good luck on the guitar
Teles are a very resident without an amp

I have one of the most obscure conditions Im hoping the telecaster will vibrate less enough so I can play, going to use ultra lights. Most people might not realize it but acoustic vibrates like crazy.

Ordered a 2022 mim today. Mexico has been making guitars for like 500 years.

Now on to fixing my kit built 5 watt tube amp which I hope will give it a good sound, played low of course. You all up sold me to a guitar twice as much, thanks! And its made of alder which is an amazing wood to smoke with so if it doesn't work out, well..
I have tinnitus, which presents a certain set of problems when dealing with sound, but I also have hyperacusis, which causes extreme sensitivity to certain sounds. Audiologists are just beginning to realize how many have this problem.

If you have the same problem you'll find little relief from any steel string response, and particularly if you use an amp, even at low volume.

You might consider a Cordoba Cadete 3/4 size nylon strung acoustic. The string tone is much easier on the ears.

A couple hundred bucks…ok.
New prices today:

Mexican Tele $849.00
Squier Affinity Tele $249.00

Squier Indonesian Tele CV 50 $419.00, absolutely the best value.

I've got to recommend the Squier Classic Vibe Teles, as well.

I have two - a 2009 CV50's and a 2010 CV Custom, and they're really nice guitars.

Both are earlier MIC. They were about $280 each, brand new - back then.

I have a Squier Affinity Telecaster that I freaking love. I’ve changed out the pick ups, the switch electronics and now I am in the process of changing out the tuners. But I liked the guitar even before these upgrades.

It is from 2009. And it was made in Taiwan. I’m not sure if the other years and places of manufacture are as good.

Some are very good. My Indonesian Strat gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ll give my Tele ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've had many Tele's over the years, and currently still have 5 in the stable. I hate to say this but the worst by far was the Affinity BSB that I had. Narrow nut, thin body, lousy pickups and just basically blah. Even the basic Standard Squier is much better as a modding platform. The Squier CV line is on a completely different level. Other than the cheap selector switch it is good to go.
