Sunday afternoon time in the McKnight Guitar work shop. Tim had expected to put a little more time into the McKnight script for the front peghead but decided it's better to trust a local laser printer to create this since the ivory is special to this build. The CNC could make it but it's not as gentle to thin ivory.

As the McKnight luthier is feeling better we are now somewhat back at teh benchto get on the Angel guitar. A local lady has a laser printer so she has offered to help create our peg head script. The CNC machine isn't as kind to thin aged ivory when it comes to name. Time is of essence to get the Angel guitar in Teri's hands by Christmas. We can kick in gear soon. However, check out what we have been up to.

Me? I'm preparing holiday little get well gifts for the Emergency room patients.

Tim put in the side dots.

Holes were drilled

Glue was squirted in and the side dot material is glued in place.

As soon as they are in the hole Tim clips them down closer to the fretboard.

The small hand planer smooths the plastic material to look like dots.

The bridge held Tim's attention today. The ebony bridge was hand picked for the My Angel guitar.

He wonders why his back hurts when the machine is doing some of the work. Go figure!

Protective material is put around and under the bridge so he can glue it to the top. Location is key!

Removing the excess material before giving the box of "My Angel" her first coat of sealer, but first a little more perfectionist touch up.

Now it's time for that first eye popping moment to see the colors of the grains say "Hellooooo, Momma!"

Thumbs up

I always enjoy your pictures and explanations.
WooHoo. That wood is turning out very nice.
Thank you Mary for allowing us to peak over his shoulder. It’s a lot of fun and very educational too. Extra fun when it’s an extra special guitar like this one.

Ah, it is our pleasure to share the fun of creating. It's nice when our customers enjoy sharing their experiences with the AGF family. I do share a few private pictures and tell about the luthier's inside stresses when something isn't quite on par time wise. We are thankful for those who show such grace and patience.

Hello mama is right! The “angel” is looking gorgeous. I am so pleased with the wood grains in both the back and front.

This guitar is already beautiful. I look forward to watching the final phases of its creation.

Thank you for allowing us to share in the build and in the anticipation of its completion.... and demo video...hint, hint.

I think I tried that once and it wasn't such a great idea. I'm not a professional, but I will take that advice and see IF I can do a mini one. I tried to show you what was going on outside but this ended up not being a video. I'll wait until work mode another day.

After Tim put the sealer on the guitars he always goes back and inspects. Drop fill is common for luthiers who have that perfectionist side to them. Every tiny divot gets a drop to fill in a negative spots drop by drop by drop. This takes place until he is happy. Quite often it will take hours.

To cut the shape of the peg head that Teri desired for the Angel Tim traced the Lucite pattern on the front and the back.

The Veneer was clamped in place.

The Tuner holes were created and sanded from the front and the back.

The McKnight script put us in a pickle. We had hoped to make it out of the ivory but each time we "thought" it would work the ivory material wasn't cooperating with us.

Say, it. Go ahead. "This is what we get for thinking." We three agreed Mother of Pearl is real close in color. Thankfully the MOP handled the stress better than the piano keys.

The stain on the neck was painted on, wiped down and is lookin' real good!

Close ups show there is plenty of spraying, sanding and drop fill that will take place in the next few weeks. That glass like shine takes a while to achieve. This is why I find extra time for all those little get well gifts I give away at the hospital. This part of the job is like washing your hair. Wash, rinse, apply conditioner, rinse. Repeat, repeat, repeat and when you think you are close to the end you find spots you need to repeat again.

I will spare you the details and avoid pictures as this process takes place. When something more intriguing pops up in the build process I'll be sure to let you know.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. The McKnight Guitar team of two wishes all of you a very safe and special day. If you have not given us your address we can't send a Christmas card. Now is the time. They will go out next week!

Thank you, Rodger, for your support on so many angles! You will see the McKnight My Angel up close and personal at the McJam. Maybe Teri will have each of you play her during open mic so she she can hear the magical sounds this one instrument when in the hands of several professional players! I already get butterflies when I hear Tim tone tap the box.
