For years I've felt a deep personal calling to do something about the plight of the world’s sea turtles, specifically the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, which has been the sole source of “tortoise shell picks” for hundreds of years. The Hawksbill, even though protected by CITES, has been slaughtered and poached to the brink of extinction. Of the seven species of sea turtles existing in the world today, it is the most endangered.

We wanted to do something about it.

Beginning November 1st Charmed Life Picks began selling the industry's first sea turtle preservation guitar pick, a fundraising model designed to raise money for the protection of sea turtle habitat. The model pictured above, the stf-1, is the first offering in this series. It is a standard 351 teardrop shape at 1.0 mm, in DuPont Vespel polyimide, a legendary picking material in the picking industry. (Speed bevels are available upon request, for free.) The stf-1.0 will sell for $50, with $10 from every sale being donated directly to sea turtle preservation organizations (a full list to follow). That price also includes free shipping to your door.

In addition to supporting our efforts, your name will be posted on our website (unless you prefer to be anonymous) as a donor to our project.

We're humbled to report that you have made our new Hawksbill Sea Turtle Preservation fundraising pick the #1 selling model in our company. We began envisioning this project about two years ago, doubtful it would ever happen but committed to try. And here we are now, two years later, having successfully launched and been so warmly received by the music community. We are humbled beyond belief.

A reminder that every pick sold ($50) generates a $10 donation to sea turtle preservation non-profits. It also comes with free shipping. We recently established an alliance with a really cool non-profit called See Turtles. Our first donation went to them, and we've formed a kind of loose strategic alliance with them. We'll be donating to other worthy orgs as well, but it's important that we vet them first before donating.

For those of you who may be new to the plight of sea turtles, "tortoise shell" picks and other decorative shell products come from only one reptile in the world -- the Hawksbill Sea Turtle -- which is the most severely endangered of the seven extant sea turtle species. They are still being poached and slaughtered around the world, even though protected by CITES and serious legal consequences in almost every country.

RUNNING TALLY OF OUR DONATIONS: In the upper right corner of our homepage you'll see a running tally of the funds we've donated so far to sea turtle protection: It's small now, but from the acorn grew the mighty oak. Charmed Life is taking no money from your donations for management of the fund, bookkeeping, shipping, etc. Your ten bucks goes directly to work. When able, we are also making separate donations on behalf of our company.

People pushed us hard, so we've already introduce a second model. This one is also part of our brown series polyimide line, a 1.0 mm triangle with right or left bevels. These will trickle through, and we won't be shipping the first batch till probably about mid-January, but we ARE accepting orders on them now.

The two sea turtle picks have instantly become the two top sellers in our company. We've put together a dealer program that will also include a $10.00 donation to sea turtle orgs. You might wanna snap a few on your next order.

With a little help from Photoshop, we were able to bring out the actual color of the engraved lime green turtle, which is the same color as our Shamrock logo. We've found that natural sunlight brings out the best in the brown material (luckily we don't live in Minnesota), but also washes out the lime in the logo. So a little help from Adobe gives that back to us. I'm amazed and how well these turned out.
