Taran Tirga Mhor Build
I owned a used version of the smallest Taran model for a while and was so impressed with it, I traded up to a custom build. The Tirga Mhor 12 fret was the perfect fit. I have arthritis pretty bad in my left shoulder so those longer 14 fret reaches are over for this lifetime.
This particular instrument is one of the signature models so it has some amazing features. The back and sides are Pernambuco and the top a European Spruce. Taran uses a slight fan fret (0.5" scale delta) which will not be a problem. I've had several fan frets and I loved them all as long as they had less than a 0.75" scale difference. Any larger than that and it got awkward for me on the lower frets. Anyway, I'll update the thread with pictures as they arrive. Judging from the progress to date, I'm guessing delivery in May. Cincy

Was really cool hearing the tap tone of the pernambuco sets at the shop a few months ago. It has a pure sound which seemed to further confirm what I thought I heard on the other 3 pernambuco guitars I've played, but there was still some nice depth down low. Looking forward to seeing this build progress, congratulations!

What happened with this build? I am fairly certain this very guitar is now en route to myself.

Will look forward to it greatly. Saw the back and sides set in the flesh when I popped in to see the progress on mine and Rory dragged me through to show me because he was so enthused with the tap tone. I expect it to be sensational. But I'm biased.

Looking forward to seeing this one finished up...and hopefully getting to hear it. I love my Tirga Mhor and am curious to see how Pernambuco colors the sound. Rory builds absolutely world class guitars. I have a 2024 build slot with Taran, but unfortunately I'm having to make it available to others now. If anyone wants an earlier build slot, just reach out to Kim at TNAG.

Hope the new owner will give us an update. I absolutely love my Tirga Mhor.
I also want to reiterate that there is a 2024 Taran build slot available with Carter Vintage/TNAG. Just reach out to Kim if you're interested or know anyone that would be. They don't list available build slots on the Carter Vintage website like they used to on the TNAG website and I'm just trying to find a way to get the word out.

I am sorry I have not had any time to write anything about my Taran guitar. Fortunately, I have taken the time to play it every day. I find its tone mesmerizing, emotional, and haunting. I am quite taken by the strong fundamental and balance of overtones. In the past I have had guitars that glow, bloom but I always found the fundamental to be lacking. Not so with this perfect pernambuco delight. I had not expected it to be a guitar you could flat pick with a heavy attack but here we are
I will do my best to sit down and write more in a month or so once things calm down. New house build, baby on the way and wedding to plan. All blessings. Cheers, all....Jack |
