I'm sure the brace in the back of a 350Z doesn't help with the ability to haul stuff.

I looked at them when searching for a car but decided that two adults and a dog wouldnt work well in it.

I sold my 1969 Datsun 2000 just over 20 years ago.

I'm not having luck convincing my wife I need a nice 350Z now.

While the mandated “prohibition of building fossil fuel vehicles” in certain places seems admirable to some, it will be many many decades before those are completely gone.
I won’t be around to see the “great battery disposal crisis.”
Darn!

It is important to be mindful of what Hans Rosling RIP called gapminder problems. Lots of matters are not two choices or divisions. We let or don't know we are being influenced by cognitive biases.

A mandated prohibition of fossil fuel vehicle can only work in the minds of poorly informed and paranoid people because the whole auto industry isn't doing that and can't even if they wanted to. However, we might see history repeat where some regulations nudge us towards better practices where it makes sense.

For some comfort and good support on this consider the good Bloomberg article I've posted before surveying all the automakers. Only a few are going all electric. All of them are stating 10-20 years to reach new goals.

For more support on the pace of change, I've posted about the fresh $ billions GM and Stellantis have just spent on new gasoline engine families barely put in product yet.

The great battery disposal crisis is not for cars or many first tier products where we already have a nascent recycling industry and full product manufacturing and life cycle to keep materials in the supply chain. The worry will be some cheaper thing people buy or dispose, and lower tier consumer products.

When the products are ready or viable in transportation we'll likely see huge changes. That will be history repeating much like my town no longer has lectors and lamplighters.

Nice to see all the smaller EU cars. We are down to one car; 2012 Chevy Sonic Turbo with the 6 spd manual. I've always preferred cars to trucks. I had a 2009 Saab 93 that towed my race car around Ontario for a couple of years. Never felt like I was unsafe (had dolly brakes). And I've probably carried more plywood on the roof rack of the Sonic than some folks have had in the beds of their pickups

Lovely car. You've had it longer than I've had my Morgan (1986).

Smile BMW i3s

I'm driving a 2021 BMW i3s, which is all electric. This is the second i3 I have owned, and I really like them. They have a carbon fiber body and suicide rear doors, which is really unique. Very fun to drive! It has 175 miles range, which is fine for me since I almost never leave town. It's too bad BMW recently stopped producing these.

Mine is a 2012 Subaru Forester (2.0 l turbo diesel, manual) but it lives mostly in the garage & I spend way more time in the work vehicle which is an Isuzu D-Max utility truck.

My car is a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. Good mileage, great appointments and comfortable to ride in and drive. My first car was a 1963 Rambler wagon, and my favorite was an totally unreliable, but fun to drive and thoroughly exciting 1972 MG BGT with the hatchback. I loved that car, but I just couldn't afford the upkeep on it and it would not crank 2 out of 5 days of the week. I almost cried when I had to get rid of it.

My car is a 2017 Subaru Outback, and my wife drives a 2020 Toyota Rav4. I like my Outback more than she likes her Rav4.

Prior to getting the Outback I drove a 2002 Subaru Forester, purchased new in the aftermath of 9/11 when there was zero interest rates on car financing and it was cheaper to buy a new car from a dealer than it was to pay the interest on a loan to buy a used one.

I like Subarus….
