Is the Rainsong WS size comparable to a Martin M or 0000 sized guitar? You all have me more and more interested in getting a Rainsong.

thanks,

Debbie

A little narrower, but deeper,

0000 is:
Body Length 20 1/8"
Body Width 16"
Upper Bout 11 11/16"
Body Depth 4 1/8"

My WS is:
Body Length 19 5/8"
Body Width 15 3/4"
Upper Bout 11 11/16"
Body Depth 5"

Ignore the extra 6 strings:

Hey DebbieE, like bsman I have a Rainsong Shorty SG. I love having a guitar that I keep out on a stand and one that I can throw in a gig bag and walk with, take on long car trips, etc. I play mostly bluegrass and last week I brought it to a jam was pleased with its projection in an ensemble setting. Kinda weird looking in that setting but it was fine. List member JerryM has some informative posts on the RS Shorty in this section of the forum and I took his advice and put SCGC parabolic strings on it and it is just the easiest playing guitar. Its not going to sound like your Martins but it is so versatile, comfortable and convenient, I am really happy to have it. Good luck with your search!

I think I'm going to go for the RainSong Concert Hybrid Series CH-WS model after considering the guitars I have and the input of everyone that replied. The measurements are pretty close to the 0000 sized Martin but the depth is deep like a dreadnaught which should give me the bass I want. I really don't want electronics but I guess it's not a bad thing, I doubt I'll ever use that part of the guitar. The WS would be backordered and not come in until 6-15 but I'm good at waiting.

Thanks for everyones input I really appreciate it!

Debbie

This is what I love about this forum!!!

Don’t have the dread but have the hybrid WS. Being a bit of a wood snob, at first I looked at the rainsong as necessary evil. Lately it has been raining a lot
and the humidity is through them roof. Now, after not playing the rainsong for a year or so, it sounds so much better then I remembered. It’s loud and clear with lots of sustain.

Debbie, any Rainsong can be ordered without electronics if you prefer. Enjoy.

I ordered mine without electronics. Just don't like barn doors. I was quoted 6-8 weeks to get the guitar, but I had it in 2-1/2. YMMV.

By the way, don't hesitate to email them if you have any questions. RainSong's customer service is outstanding. Dave will hook you up.

Hi Debbie,

I have a CH-WS also. In case you didn't know, the "standard" CH-WS has NS neck, with short scale and 12 frets to the body (boomier bass). That's one of the reasons I got it. Together with the cutaway, I think it's the best of both worlds.

Rainsong used to let you special order the longer scale 14-fret N2 neck -- I don't know if they still do. In the H-WS model, the N2 neck is standard.

Jim

I think the OP said she was using the latest MF 15% off sale which means she's stuck with the MF stock inventory. I custom ordered my CH-WS from Ted at LA Guitar Sales wo/pickup and it took less than 2 weeks to show up in PA. I got my CH-PA from MF which at 15% off and 8% Back Stage Pass points was a price hard to beat (given I wanted the stock version).

She said it was back-ordered until 6/15. The Rainsong neck specs aren't obvious -- thought she'd like to know about the CH-WS vs H-WS neck differences.

I got mine from Ted too, and he offered the same discount on stock and special orders. In any case, the stock CH-WS is what I wanted.

Yeah, I would give Ted a chance at matching that MF discount.

I don't think there's a bad Rainsong out there. It all depends on taste. Whatever your taste, there is a Rainsong for you.

I should be in the ad business, but I'm not. Rainsong is the oldest of CF makers, has experimented the most, taken some hits, and come back with some incredible instruments. Pick your size and go for it. And, enjoy.........

Thanks all for the info again. I did order one from Musicians Friend and it should be shipped out by June 15th. I've also inquired with Teds to see if he'd match the Musicians friend discount coupon and take that off of a non-electronic model. I'm pretty excited about having a guitar I can leave out without having to worry about the lack of humidity.

Thanks Kramster for the offer, I just went ahead and ordered the guitar, I'm pretty sure I'll like it.

thanks,

Debbie
