I'm still at the beginning of the journey (and alternating between guitar and bass guitar) but the guitar songs I like to play the most so far are

Over the Hills and far away
Norweigian Wood
Behind Blue Eyes (goofs and all)
Love In Vain (Rolling Stones arpeggiated version, I love it)
for flatpicking

and for fingerstyle

Don't Think Twice It's Alright
Helplessly Hoping (CSN)
Dear Prudence (drop D) and of course
Blackbird (yeah, it's a cliche but...good warmup)

All fairly easy songs but difficult to play WELL....like everything.

Lately I've been playing Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes a lot at gigs. In fact, I know it's one of my favorites because I find myself saving it for later in the set.

In standard tuning I'm often going to John Renbourn's "Lady Nothinge's Toye Puffe" - or Greensleeves, I love the interchange between an A minor chord and a D major (guess the Dorian just does it for me).

To pick an alternate tuning piece, I have to second the poster who suggested Page's "Rain Song". It just sounds SO right!!! Tuning is DGCGCD.

Regards
Mike

Wild Horses by the Stones, as you can embellish it in so many ways.

Patience by Guns N Roses as it's an easy chord progression that's instantly recognisable.

Hotel California - with a capo on 2 - as it's easy to play that way and sounds good enough for singalongs.

Maggie May by Rod Stewart as I love the progression.

Neil Young's Keep on Rockin' in the Free World (Acoustic Version, of course ), followed closely by Dan Fogelberg's Leader of the Band and Neil's Heart of Gold.

Love this topic!
