D tuning
I use D tuning on my CA OX (aka Slick). Out of curiosity, how many of you use D tuning?

I do. Sometimes tuning D-d (standard minus two frets) is just easier on my voice for some songs that push the upper limits of my range. I use medium gauge strings to do that though, to maintain tension. Typically this is on my Rainsong WS-1000 or my Lucky 13.
Presumably you are not talking about Open D (DADF#AD). I use that one too. |

I only tune down guitars which are hard to play due to high action or other setup issues. Once I have the guitar properly set up I revert it to standard tuning.
My Rainsong Smokey for example came with its action set too high so I had to sand down the bridge. Now it plays like butter.

My most frequently played guitars live in DADF#AD. I’m not quite sure how I got into the habit - I’ve used open tunings a lot over the years, and have just gravitated toward this. DADGAD is but a tweak away, also; looking forward to trying all this out on the X20.
CGCGCE is a favourite too, but I try not to linger with it. It makes me long to go a step further and try a baritone, which is just not on the cards right now
