I have found that EI Rosewood smells like a pony when wet.

Very high probability that it is Rosewood. Frank's suggestion is the best -- What does it smell like? Brazilian or Indian. If neither, then it is most likely some other Rosewood like Amazon RW.

Looks like Cocobolo to me, in the latter photos. What's the density like?

Looks to me like Claro Walnut. Just recently bought a slab of very similar dimensions with very similar grain. Nice piece!!
