Hey folks, this short piece is from Richard Saslows’s introductory book to ragtime. It’s all on the first few frets so I guess you would call it ragtime lite The title becomes self-explanatory after the first few bars. Recorded with a USB mic into my iPad without any processing because I haven’t figured out how to do that on video. The guitar is my Farida 0T-22W which I absolutely love. Thanks for listening!

Very cool, love the name of that tune! Also cool to put a face with your AGF handle Bob.

Nice job Bob. Ragtime lite still looks and sounds pretty challenging to me.

Nice of you to listen and comment, Ray! I bought this book a couple of years ago and wasn’t ready for it about a year or so into fingerpicking. Put it aside, but when Chuck from Canada posted a tune from it lately I dug it out again, and the first couple of tunes were less daunting. I’ve been learning a couple of John Hurt songs a month for the past year, which has really helped with my right thumb and syncopation skills.

Thanks again, Ray!

Thanks for watching, Joe! I have about filled up my SoundCloud free storage so it looks like it’s onto YouTube.

Thanks so much, Phil. Great to know that you and so many other great players on here have traveled this path before me. With the second edition you download the audio from the Internet. I finally figured out how to get that onto a CD. So now I can play it in the car. Next step trying to slow it down, Richard drank a lot of coffee when he recorded these tones!

Great job Bob!

Again, a reminder for me to dig that book out of the archives,

I use the $9 a month subscription plan on Soundcloud. More upload room (360 minutes) and the ability to
replace a recording file instead of deleting and re-posting. You have to email them to ask about
that plan as they are pushing the Pro Unlimited, not the version (Pro) that I have.

Hey Bob, Nice job, and glad to see/hear folks taking up ragtime. That way when I'm asked what types of music I play I won't feel like I'm the only one including ragtime.. Ragtime can be a lot of fun for solo acoustic guitar. Have you looked into Rev. Gary Davis (Piedmont blues, which is a blend of blues and ragtime)?

I just came across a few of my instructional books that had a floppy record included. Great memories from back in the day.
