Default Feels like I won the Cordoba lottery!

I've been happy for a very long time with my C9 spruce top - it's sent a lot of very nice and expensive guitars packing, but I've still been keeping an eye out for a rosewood backed classical that had the "right stuff" tonally - giving that little darker Spanish sound.

A couple weeks back I stumbled upon a "project" Cordoba Solista SP at a price that was kind of hard to believe. It's always a bit of a crap shoot when you take a chance on one of these - so I asked TONS of questions and decided I'd take the dive.

It showed up better than I expected - after a 3 hour session of cleaning/buffing setup/intonation and fresh strings it's way more than I expected!

Minor cosmetic and structural imperfections were mostly overcome and the end result is a fantastic sounding and playing instrument! It has just enough of the midrange clarity that I've been searching for in a Rosewood instrument. Nice fat trebles and plenty of volume.

Sometimes you just get lucky - I'd have been pretty happy at twice the price! Came in a Humicase Protege in great shape.

Getting ready to put some ports in it with a slightly different design than my C9, but with the same intent.

Thanks - this one took a boat load of polishing and cleaning. The setup isn't completely dialed in yet, but I have a thing about detuning/retuning fresh strings (KILLS them) so it willl have to wait a while! The ports will be done first!

Thanks guys - I've had a couple other Solista's before, but neither sounded like this one!

Wow now that is saying something, so great to get a winner, especially when you really know it. Congratulations I have a C10 and enjoy the fat trebles and even midrange of it's spruce rosewood combo. Funny how the same wood combo in steel can have a very different tonality.

I love the looks of yours, great detail touches and the three piece back is wonderful.

I wish the Solista had the saddle spacing of the 9 and 10 series guitars - unfortunately it's quite a bit more narrow.....like 2.5 or 3mm. Makes a huge difference!

Given the tonal qualities, I'll certainly learn to deal with it!

Nice guitar!! I used to own the cedar version of the Solista. It's a great guitar, but I never fully bonded with it & sold it.

Yes - one of the others I had was Cedar - and it was just too dark and muddy for my ear.

This one sounds so good I'm sitting here questioning whether to put the ports in or not. On the other hand, I've never ported an instrument and not had it sound better!

How did you put in the ports, especially getting the finish repaired?

Start with a dremel and a small bit, then use an endpin reamer (very carefully) then put strips of 220 paper around the rounded end of a C02 cartridge and twist to get the bevel nice. Lots of elbow grease, but there is less chance of chipping finish this way
