Has not been done yet. I know Ben has played it when practicing with Frog and Toad and had fine things to say as did Brad Jones, but he has not done the intro video yet. I will post it for sure. He is getting professional pictures done next week as he likes this one a lot. He may be waiting for those to be done? He truly is the man of mystery here, not me lol!

Default LONG WAY

It is easy to forget sometimes as we move along in the process of where we started. I mean, for me, this is the amazing part...look where we started and what it has been turned into. Luthiers are amazing wood workers, but more than that, artists:

There is no question about the level of artistry involved. A pile of wood, a shelf you might find at your local building supply spot, turned into this gorgeous musical instrument. The skill and talent involved amazes me! It is especially awe-inspiring when the builder is a skilled finisher, working with tints, stains and whatever else is involved to get the depth of color, the three-dimensional look, like you could dive right into that top. Woodworking wizardry.

Default DEMO VIDEO

Well, the wait is over, here is the completed Black Lion and Ben's demo! I could say how I feel, but I think the video says a lot. I hope you enjoy and comment on your thoughts!

And for those who did not see this in the B.I.G. thread, what the heck is wrong with you, but here is the Black Lion trying to compete with the big War Horse and wins the battle in my opinion! Frog and Toad will be performing for an hour at the B.I.G. btw if you like what you hear.

Oh my!! A video treasure trove arrives at AGF......I"ve been waitin'!!!
Both of these clips are extraordinary in so many ways. The guitar looks and sounds amazing, and Frog and Toad do it proud. Such a talented duo.

Play in good health......one adventure completed....another about to begin.
Many congrats!

That guitar is everything I have come to love about redwood; warm, clear and with loads of headroom. That is a ridiculous amount of sound, with such depth and presence, for a 14" lower bout. When he said that in the video, it really shocked me. I don't know if the body size had been mentioned before, but that really was a surprise after hearing how loud this guitar is, and how clear that sound is when he hits the strings hard. It looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, Tom.

Thank you Fred, I have been waiting too! There was a delay as Ben had some pro shots taken of this thing which is really cool, but did make the demo video a longer wait, but one that was worth it. There seems to be a joy for Ben when doing this tape!

Same here Kevin. I am also very anxious to play it and see it close up. The video did not show the grain in the top which really came out with the oxidation process. I am also very excited that you will indeed get a chance to play this guitar!!!!

Thanks Paul. We are hoping Beth can make it to the B.I.G. as well. I know she is really trying to make it happen.

In my reply to Ben I mentioned that I did not know if most of that is just noodling or something he knows to play, but it looked like noodling to me and I would give anything to have that knowledge of the fretboard to make those choices. I just loved it. I thought it really showed off what this guitar can do as well. Once of my pet peeves is when a guitar demo becomes more about what the player can do rather than show case the guitar and I think this video is the perfect blend of those features.

Yes, I am probably a little biased, but this is me holding back LOL!

Yeah, I agree, I might be reading too much into it, but I think he really likes this one!!!! Behind the scenes there were initially some issues with the oxidation of the top that Ben had to figure out and work through. I bring this up to make the point that this "perfection" did not just happen, he put a lot into it so I think he is a little personally invested in this instrument and should be really proud of it IMO!

Thanks Mike, I have to agree on the redwood. Ben likes it a lot (enough that he built this guitar from a shelf haha) and says it is really right between Cedar with its warmth and say Sitka with its strong attack. I know Redwood can be quite variable from piece to piece so you do need to be picky about what you use, but I think this one passes the mustard test! And, just listen in the second video how this little bugger holds its own with the Warhorse. Now Ben is flat picking and Brad is using fingers with a thumb pick, but still it really projects well!

I will be happy to put this in your hands at B.I.G. next March.

I am going to have to have a hand washing station and a protective smock for people to wear before they get this dark beauty in their grubby little mitts hahahaha!
Maybe a hazmat suit would work!!!

Tom
