Default Dickey Betts critically injured in fall

Founding member of the Allman Brothers, Dickey Betts, fell and hit his head causing a brain bleed while playing with his dog at home. He is going in for surgery tomorrow to relieve pressure. Prayers and thoughts would be appreciated. More HERE.

That can be very dangerous, especially if the person is on blood thinners. Best wishes.

That's a bummer. Let's hope and pray for the best.

I've been a fan from Day One...the man held down one of the toughest jobs in music...he went on stage every night and went toe to toe with the legendary Duane Allman...

My best wishes for a full recovery to the great Dickey Betts...

I read that earlier this evening. He's one of my musical heroes. I wish him the best. He's no kid any longer, and all those guys in the Allman Brothers romped around a little too hard and a little too long with substance abuse, so that has to have taken a toll on his overall health, as well.

I'm keeping him in my prayers.

I hope he will recover fully.

One of my favorite Dicky Betts moments happened several years after his Allman Brothers days (maybe 1995 or so). We were with friends at a local outdoor venue to watch Alabama opening for Pam Tillis.

I kept looking at the rhythm guitar player - man, he looked familiar and was a great player. Somewhere in the middle of the set, he took a solo. It was from his first solo album, "Highway Call". I recognized the riff instantly and must have had a big grin on my face when I realized that it was Mr. Richard Betts on guitar - he saw me and returned the grin.

That was a great moment.

Rick

And as a PS, that was in the heyday of great small venues. The Oakdale Musical Theater in Wallingford, CT probably sat about 1700. It was a theater in the round with a revolving stage. The furthest seats were perhaps 150 feet away from center stage and the stage itself was about forty feet in diameter. Everyone had a great seat and the revolving stage was always a fun feature for both the performers and the audience. Over several years, not only did we see musical acts, summer stock, "Barney yhe Dinosaur", "Sesame Street Live", "Sharon, Lois, and Bram", but comedians - saw George Carlin a number of times, Billy Crystal, Jay Leno - it was a great venue.

I read this, too, Bob. I hope the surgery does the trick.

I’ve always loved his sense of melody and his phrasing.

Sorry to hear this. A family member had a very similar situation a couple of years ago, and it took almost a year, but he made a mostly full recovery, albeit with some lifestyle modifications. Best wishes to Dickie Betts on getting through this one.

Reports from some who know say the surgery went well and that Dickey is responding well.

I am glad he is OK, but this scares me. I have one artificial hip and the other one is scheduled.
I have fallen 5 times in the past couple of months, and the
last time was on our marble bathroom floor. I hit my head hard but was only
recently aware of what a brain bleed is. I feel very lucky.

Get well Dickey.
