I can tell you from my experience of searching for 3 or 4 years for one of these, they very seldom come around. I had a constant notifier search on RV and EB and missed one for $5K ish twice because they sold so fast. My Favorite Guitars had 2 or 3 reissues made without the Jorma inlay on the fretboard and they went for very close to $5K. I’ve heard stories from guys at Jorma’s Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp (I’ve been 13 times) that some have paid $5-$6K for them.

Nobody knows about this one unless they are on the thread or happen to browse the Carter site. It’s not on RV or EB and I would guess if it were, it would be gone. I say if you know you want one of these, you should probably get it for the best price you can.

Thirteen times to the Fur Peace! Wow. I'm wondering if you ever met my old friend, Ethan Greene, who at one time, did the stage lighting for them (among other things, I think). He owned Blue Eagle Music in Athens years ago and has been in the local music scene forever. I spent years in Athens and have some fond memories of Meigs County. I wonder if the Varmints still exist....

Back to the Jorma guitar, do you recall how many of the original run Martin built? I don't think there were many.

I just checked my old emails and according to Jason at Martin CS, there were 119 of these made not counting the non-signature versions that were part of that re-run that MFG did.

Yes I remember your pal, Ethan, and have visited his shop. He wouldn't remember me but I recall he did the sound at our student shows after Jorma graduated from doing it. I started going the second year that the camp was opened and it's grown in a lot of ways now, all for the better. That was over 20 years ago putting Jorma in his deep 50's. I think he's coming up on 79 next month and still touring. The dude's got genes man. I heard stories from other 'campers' from the first year that were cool. Like Jorma waking up all the campers by putting his Fender Twin out by the sleeping cabins, diming it, and strumming the opening chords to "Volunteers of America". That's some kinda Reveille! Pretty cool stuff.

Yes, I did that. I suppose some of the comments here helped nudge me over the line. Having it delivered next week after finishing with a trip but now thinking about getting it delivered to me while I'm away. Just concerned about getting snagged at the gate and having to gate-check it. Either way, I'm pretty jazzed about getting this in my hands. It might even inspire me to go to camp with Jorma at FPR one of these days.

Highly recommended. Don't wait too long cuz he's gettin' up there. The workshops often sell out within hours so you gotta be on it. He likes small classes, like 10 max.

Congrats and enjoy that fabulous guitar!!

I’d embarrass myself right now. Gotta get to a place where I can change my handle to SomeChops. But you never know. Might just go for it and see what happens.

I'd recommend his class called the "On Ramp" that is tailored for intermediate or rusty players. He's a great teacher for all levels. Your new axe will inspire you regardless.

Blues,
Thanks for asking. The simple answer is I didn't imagine being this happy with this guitar. Carter could have done a better job cleaning it up before shipping but I chalk that up to a miscommunication. Once I started strumming it I was blown away. The bass tones on this guitar are magical - as if I've been searching for something I knew was out there but never found, and then all of a sudden, I arrived. There's a depth to the low end that surrounds everything else while leaving space for the upper registers to ring out. I am amazed. I started to wonder what this would sound like in the hands of someone who knows how to play guitar and then I remembered why I sought it out in the first place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVlllUuQWew. I took it to Todd Stock in Germantown MD, who tweaked the setup just a bit and buffed out a few lines and it now looks just about brand new - but still sounds like it's been around forever. I'm looking forward to spending hours and hours letting this guitar teach me how to really play.

I went to Fur Peace for the on ramp workshop and got to sit 5-10 feet away on a Sunday morning when Jorma played an hour for 20 of us. Good gracious that guitar sounded magical. He’s an amazing player and so fun to listen to his stories. The workshop says it is beginner and intermediate. It was way beyond this lowly player but a special weekend!

WTB Jorma M-30

So glad this worked out the way you'd hoped!

Nochops - warms my heart to read your comments and watch that video of the captain, as we call him at camp. That M-30 can ruin your life so be careful. You can lose your job for not showing up, your wife and kids might leave 'cuz you stopped paying attention to them, and there you'll be on the couch with your M-30 playing away. Peace out - Scott
