Default David Gates (Bread) Song Thread

David Gates and Bread was a hit machine of beautiful songs in the late 60’s to 70’s. Seem to be mostly forgotten now..
Here’s my take on “Everything I Own.” Sounds like a great love song, but the real meaning is he wrote it after his father died.

I have played a lot of Bread/David Gates songs over the years.

I just recorded this one... my first recording in well over a year. Maybe over two years...

Here it is, warts and all! From way back in 1972...

EDIT: Oh, and it's the first recording using the Alvarez Yairi WY1!

I was fortunate enough to have Mike Botts, Bread's drummer, play on some of my recording sessions.

Here's a fingerstyle of If. Arranged by Dan C. Holloway.

Nice work GITM, that was not an easy song to cover.

Gates was an exceptional and vastly over looked talent.

I couldn't find any humor in it! Sounded great to me.

I made this one about 18 years ago when I was round.
A good example of capoing up to sing lower.
