Default DOWN UNDER... noledog live!!

Hi friends!

* I get a lot of pm's about my thoughts on Takamine and I get asked frequently by other folks as well. As a working musician, ya have to find what works for you; your style, repertoire and the combination of gear all works together to achieve your sound. Thus I'm posting this clip from a recent show, tho I lost 30 lbs since thank God!

** My simple combo that works for the way I attack the guitar and vocals as well works like this: MIJ Tak KC70 or P3NC (I used the CT4BII on board preamp, however I will occasionally swap out with the interchangeable CTP-2), I use Martin SP medium gauge PB's tuned down a half step, (because I sing 4 hour shows for many years), I use a Blue Chip TAD50, or a TP40 or an equivalent Primetone smooth. I generally run straight into a Loudbox Performer with the onboard delay set on slightly for both guitar and voice using a Sennheiser e945 mic... and that's it! (I enjoy the non-quacky tone of the acoustic rhythm and yet fat lead tones as well.)

*** For the below performance, (since my percussionist friend Henderson sat in with me), I took the DI mix out of the Loudbox and chained it to a Presonus Air10 powered speaker for more throw as it was a long, deep audience outside. I also added a second delay to my guitar for the solo (MXR Carbon Copy) and used a wireless.

**** Henderson Olivares is a world class percussionist from Venezuela and we do a handful of shows a year when I can get him! He speaks very little English, and we never rehearse, he just follows me with great feel. He has toured all over and performs with several reggae and Latin acts... On a side note, I'm very fortunate to play with several great percussionist such as Henderson Longineu Parsons from YellowCard, and Mike Maple from The Judds all of whom can do so much on a cocktail kit. These are great guys, musicians and friends and they have taught me a lot over the past decades of which I'm grateful.

***** Below is one of three versions I do of Down Under; two different solo reggae versions (one quiet, slow and more comped, the other a little more up tempo) and this more ska-ish as a duo. Please wait for Henderson's solo as he does so much with so little. Watch in 1080p with earbudz for best results... keep in mind a friend recorded it with just a her cellphone. However, I think it demonstrates why this combo works well for what I do tho it may not for others. ENJOY!

Nice work my friend! I always dig your posts. Always very tasteful and not overplayed or over sung. And, I really love your guitar tones and delay settings. Right on. The percussionist is ridiculously good. Amazing.

I’ve played with my drummer for nearly 18 years (in fact, his daughter is engaged to my son lol. I taught her and my son in our children’s church when they were very young...crazy), and I absolutely love being able to “know where” each other is going without saying a word.

Keep the posts coming. I always look forward to them.

Be blessed in all ways.
