They come to the point of adding some sort of solo guitar line, and Glen grabs Carol Kaye's unused bass (a Dan Electro, I think) and decides to restring it with octave higher strings, then; plays the solo on the recording on the first take, after Carol (and others) expressed their doubts as to whether it would "work"!!!

As much as I love the song, I do wish Jimmy Webb had had more time to actually finish it! In his biography, he speaks of how Glen Campbell REALLY wanted a great follow-up to "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", and he came by to see if Jimmy had anything new going on... Webb played him the song, saying, "I haven't finished it yet; it just needs another verse or so..."

And Glen loved it so much, he took it, as is! And the rest, as they say, is history! As well as a bonus for all of us...
