Hey, AE, given you live in Boston area what are the locals/media saying about the Red Sox this year? Non-playoff team?

Just looked up Killebrew's stats... he led the league 6 times in HRs, all of them over 40. And of course Carew was one of the best hitters.

Who does the team look this year?
The Twins should make the playoffs, after that not sure what to expect

Young guys! When I think of Killebrew n Carew, I think of the original old Senators! I know politics is supposed to be avoided here, but we used to think Washington in those days as

1st in War, 1st in Peace, and last in The American League. Then came Killebrew, Allison, Tony O., Camillo Pasqual, Versailles, ..... and Minnesota. Been listening to John Miller, Dave Fleming and the guys call the Giants games on MLB.com audio. Enjoy this time of year.

The locals are talking down on the Sox. They are more curious about the Pats draft.

We may have well been in that stadium at the same time, Shepsdad. I used to work in Loo-ville one week every summer, and every night the Bats were at home, I was in the bleachers. It's a great park.

So am I, and the Pats' offseason acquisitions.

Feel good story: How about Yermin Mercedes of the Chicago White Sox? 28 year old rookie. He was 5-5 in his first game and then 3-4 in game two, going 8-8 to start the season to set a record. He only had one at bat in MLB before this season (0-1).

I'm now hoping the Braves make it to the World Series, so the MLB HQ in New York City can issue a press statement that Atlanta home games will not be allowed to be played there.....

I think this is the earliest I've ever given up on the Red Sox. Swept at home by the Orioles.

Let's go Bruins!

Just wait til they play a major league team!

But then again, this team was built to hug the cellar. Best get it over with now as opposed to the traditional late-season fold.

It's going to be a long season, Jim. But we know what we had going in. It'll help when we get Sale and Rodriguez back but I think it'll be too late given the Yankees/Rays/Blue Jays.

The thing that'll chase me away from the game is if they ever make the DH a permanent part of the National League. I was OK with them doing it last year, but if they ever make it the new rule of the game, I'm out. I was reminded of just how great it is having pitchers hit in the Phillies/Braves game on Saturday when Zach Wheeler got two hits and two RBI to help his cause while also pitching 7 innings of one-hit ball. Or the strategic choices managers have to make when their pitcher is going good, but they need runs late in the game. I find it a vastly more interesting game with no DH. I don't watch any AL games except during interleave play, and preferably when they're playing in the NL park.

The Phil's swept the Braves and basically shut them down in the first series. Doesn't mean that much, but it seems that the three guys at the top of the rotation, who were already pretty strong, are all off to a great start, and the bullpen looks much improved. I won't make any stupid predictions at this point, but my gut tells me the Phils are gonna be a lot more fun to watch this year than they have been in recent years.

I'm pulling for Atlanta to play in the World Series this season. Hope they win it all!

Sounds like another "Goodall presenting the Super Bowl trophy to the Patriots" moment. That was a sweet moment.
