Default Bubinga for BIG

It’s time to get some guitars ready for BIG.

I’m thinking 3 or maybe 4 this year.

First in line is a Graybeard.
Stats:
Waterfall bubinga body
Tunnel 14 redwood top
13 fret 25.5 inch scale
Manzer wedge
Florentine curaway
Arm bevel
Elevated fingerboard.
Abalone and burl rosette.

TBD fingerboard and bridge.

Time to bind it. Thanks for looking.

These will be fun to watch--looks like a great start to this one already.

Looking forward to seeing you and the guitars you'll bring to BIG III.

This looks awesome, man. I haven't gotten to play as many Bubinga guitars as I'd like to. My memory always comes back to my first time visiting Dusty Strings in Seattle and wandering into their handmade Harp gallery section...the owner knew I wasn't a harpist but still told me about each one on the floor and it turned out their flagship, highest dollar Harp was solid bubinga and when the woman played it after all the others it was just unforgettable...it was like hearing a full-size grand piano or a master-made classical in person for the first time. Goosebumps.

Hope to hear clips of this!

Looking forward to seeing you as well. I’d also like to see what you make at Kinnaird West.

I hope our paths cross again at BIG. I really enjoyed your playing.
It strikes me, having built a few bubinga boxes, that they have a nice rosewood sound when tapped. It’s not as much like that when tapping a loose plate, but once assembled the box really comes alive.

Oh boy John, that is a great start. I have always had a soft spot for waterfall Bubinga after seeing one that your brother made long before I had met him. This set is very similar.

This one is speaking my language, I hope it last until B.I.G.III.

I guess this thread can be an early announcement. We will be having a B.I.G. III, Sept. 2nd through the 4th. 3-4 new luthiers are joining us including Michael Kennedy who is know on the AGF as Indian Hill guitars, but now building under his name, Max Spohn from Germany is also coming and posts his builds here as well, and Benjamin Paldacci as newbies.

Entertainment although almost impossible to top Tony McManus last year and Dustin and Karlijn, I may have actually done it. I am holding off those announcements until later.

What an excellent addition to the luthier crowd. I’m most familiar with Michael’s work and have great respect for that. I feel certain that the work of Max and Benjamin will be at comparable

It’s going to be hard to beat the conviviality that Dustin and Tony brought to the event so I’m anxious to hear what you have planned.

Wow, John, you really checked all the boxes on this one! I’m eager to see what else you come up with for BIG. Great work. Dave

Smile Yow!!!

Bubinga is a killer tonewood. And what a set on this!

At this point I am pretty sure John could make a papier-mâché axe sound real good! Fortunately his wood locker is spectacular and still brimming with goodness…

And, a sneak BIG III announcement to boot!

Woohoo

Paul

That’s beautiful already! Can’t wait to see and play it. Any inlays, or a blank fretboard?

John you are killing me.

Exactly the body style I am recently falling in love with with the ergos to boot and matches the bedroom furniture that I built a while back.

And here I was thinking that I was plenty good and don't need to add any new guitars this year. Gorgeous work so far!IMG_20220223_073149873.jpgIMG_20220223_073116183_HDR.jpg

We are probably switching to the LaQuinta this year if they will work with us on a rate. It is on our side of 35 so you won't need to go through the lights on the overpass nor do that little roundabout turn. Also sits right behind Chic-fil-a and wing stop among others for midnight snacks. It is also newer being finished just last year.
