Hi TW

Receiving the subliminal thought…

Receiving the subliminal thought…

I think I need to…I think I want to (oh what is it?????)
I think I'm going to…

Make a cup of coffee and restring my Bashkin! That's it…and yes it is a beautiful piece of wood! Sounds better than it looks too! Thanks for noticing…

Default Beautiful GS Mini Wood

Here are some photos of the beautiful Figured Top from my GS Mini. And this is what Charlie from Taylor Woodsourcing team mentioned about figuring :

Figured mahogany is certainly rarer than something like figured maple. For example, it would be normal to see 10%-20% figure (flame) when cutting maple, but probably less than 5% when cutting mahogany. And for backs and sides, it’s even more difficult to find figure because the trees need to be wider and older, which is increasingly difficult to find.

We do have a stock of figured mahogany for specialty or custom guitars, and collect those sets for special guitars anytime we come across it. You can work with your local Taylor dealer if you’re interested, and I’d be happy to help you and the dealer work through any questions.

Cuban mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) is still viable and available, but it’s not nearly as popular or as easy to work with as standard tropical mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla).

In general, it’s likely that mahogany sourcing and production will increasingly come from younger trees, which typically have less figure. So, if your guitar has figured mahogany, it’s a keeper!
